UND has six selections to All-Great West team

GRAND FORKS, N.D. - University of North Dakota senior outside linebacker Ryan Kasowski has been named to the 2010 All-Great West Conference first team, one of six Fighting Sioux who earned all-conference honors in vote of the league's coaches.

It was the second straight first-team selection for Kasowski, a Grand Forks, N.D., native who appeared in all 11 games and recorded 48 tackles (29 solo), seven tackles-for-loss, three sacks and two quarterback hurries in 2010.

UND's five other All-GWC selections were all named to the second team, including: defensive lineman Ty Boyle (Sr., International Falls, Minn.), wide receiver Greg Hardin (RFr., Bellevue, Neb.), inside linebacker Dan Hendrickson (Jr., Minot, N.D.), running back Josh Murray (Jr., Pepin, Wis.) and defensive back Joel Schwenzfeier (Sr., Hallock, Minn.).

Boyle recorded a career-high 38 tackles (16 solo) in 11 games in 2010, adding 3.5 tackles-for-loss, one sack, one interception, two quarterback hurries and two pass breakups. He recently accepted an invitation to play in the FCS Senior Scout Bowl next month in Hillburn, N.Y.

Hardin enjoyed a spectacular freshman season, leading the Sioux in receptions (41), receiving yards (736), touchdown receptions (nine) and total touchdowns (10). He recorded three 100-yard receiving games, including the two biggest single-game freshman totals in Sioux history: 177 yards vs. Northwestern State (Sept. 25) and 171 yards at Southern Illinois (Sept. 11).

In his first year as a starter, Hendrickson led the Sioux in tackles (78) and solo tackles (24), tied for the team lead with eight tackles-for-loss and tied for second with 3.5 sacks. He also registered two pass breakups and two quarterback hurries.

Murray appeared in 11 games, starting nine, and led the Sioux with 1,165 all-purpose yards. He ran for a team-leading 670 yards and four touchdowns while averaging 5.5 yards per carry, and added 32 receptions for 237 yards, both of which ranked second on the team.

Schwenzfeier tied for the Great West Conference lead with four interceptions and finished his career tied for eighth all-time at UND with 11. A third-year starter at strong safety in 2010, Schwenzfeier also recorded 42 tackles (24) solo, 2.5 tackles-for-loss, three pass breakups and one blocked punt.

An additional five Sioux were named All-GWC honorable mention: defensive back Kris Ankenbauer (Sr., Murphy, Texas), defensive lineman Ross Brenneman (So., Omaha, Neb.), punter Brett Cameron (So., Winnipeg, Manitoba), outside linebacker Ross Cochran (Sr., Kenosha, Wis.) and offensive lineman Keith Queoff (Sr., Milwaukee, Wis.).
