MOORHEAD, Minn. – Head Football Coach Steve Laqua and the Minnesota State University Moorhead football team are pleased to announce the signing of two future Dragons to National Letters of Intent.
The Dragons add Myles Montplaisir and Jalen Ham as the first members of the 2011 recruiting class.
“I feel that Myles and Jalen are both great additions to our program,” Laqua said. “We are just starting the process of recruiting but feel that adding these two players is a great start to transforming Dragon football.”
Montplaisir (6'1”, 195, QB) will join the Dragons after a decorated prep-career at Shanley High School, where he played for Laqua for four years. While at SHS, he played both quarterback and defensive back and led the Deacon's to back-to-back North Dakota State Championship titles. En route to the title, Montplaisir passed for nearly 1,800 yards and had 28 touchdowns. He also had 850 yards rushing with 11 touchdowns.
Montplaisir was honored as the North Dakota AA Senior Athlete of the Year after being selected the All-State team for the second consecutive season. He was also a two-time All Conference selection and served as both the football and basketball captain. A three-sport athlete at SHS, Montplaisir earned seven letters during his tenure.
Ham (6'0”, 180, ATH) is a 15-time letterwinner at Central Cass High School where he played quarterback, wide receiver and defensive back for the Squirrels. During his senior season, Ham had 25 receptions for 485 yards and eight touchdowns as a receiver, 17 rushes for 200 yards and two touchdowns on the ground. He also had 23 tackles and three punt returns for touchdowns.
After the 2010 season, Ham was selected to the North Dakota All-State first. He was also honored in both 2010 and 2009 on the All-Region first team. As one of the teams quarterback's in 2009, Ham threw for 1,122 yards and had eight touchdowns, while rushing for five touchdowns. He is also a four-time letterwinner in both basketball and baseball, while tallying three letters in track & field. This past summer, Ham led the Cass County legion baseball team to the State Championships.
