MOORHEAD, Minn. -- Minnesota State University Moorhead junior volleyball player Kaitlin VanWinkle
was named to the All-Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference first
team, it was announced on Thursday. It is the second all-conference
honor for VanWinkle, who was named to the second team last season.
VanWinkle,
a 5-foot-11 middle blocker from Farmington, Minn., is having her best
season as a Dragon and producing on both the offensive and defensive
sides of the net for MSUM. In 26 matches this season, she has led the
Dragons in kills in 16 matches and led in blocks in 20 matches.
VanWinkle is currently ranked fifth in the NSIC in blocks per set at
1.06 and leads the Dragons in total blocks this season with 99. She also
leads the Dragons in kills this season with 321 (3.45 per set) and
hitting percentage at .338 (fifth in NSIC). VanWinkle has produced
double-digit kills in 20 matches this season and 15 of 18 NSIC matches.
The
Dragon record book will have VanWinkle's name sketched in it after her
third season as a Dragon. She has climbed to No. 7 in the top-10 of
Dragon history in block assists with 288 and No. 9 in solo blocks with
62.
Minnesota Duluth's Ashley Hinsch was named the NSIC Player
of the Year, while Bulldog senior Julie Rainey was the NSIC Libero of
the Year. Southwest Minnesota State's Eisha Oden was named the NSIC
Freshman of the Year while Minnesota Duluth's Jim Boos was the NSIC
Coach of the Year.
