Lynx' Maya Moore Named to All-WNBA Second Team

MINNEAPOLIS/ST. PAUL – The WNBA tonight announced that Lynx forward Maya Moore has been named to the All-WNBA Second Team. For Moore, she earns her second career All-WNBA Second Team honor (2012). 

The six-foot forward out of Connecticut has now been named to either the All-WNBA First or Second team in seven straight seasons. Moore finished 2018 starting all 34 games in her eighth WNBA season. She's now played in 271 of 272 games since arriving in Minnesota in 2011, with the Lynx winning 200 of those. Moore averaged 18.0 ppg, 5.1 rpg, 2.6 apg and 1.68 spg in 31.8 mpg, shooting 42.3% from the floor, 36.5% (66-for-181) from long range and 83.3% from the line. She led the WNBA in steals while ranking seventh in made three pointers, ninth in scoring and 11th in minutes. Over her final eight games of the season, Moore connected on 51.2% (22-for-43) of her trey attempts.

Moore tallied 30+ points on four occasions (including three times in her final six road starts), boosting her club-record career total to 24. Over the course of the 2018 season, she earned Western Conference Player of the Week accolades three times (June 25, July 2, Aug. 13), becoming the fifth player in WNBA history to garner 20 career weekly honors. Moore was named MVP of the 2018 All-Star Game on July 28 at Target Center after contributing 18 points, eight rebounds and six assists, becoming the first player in league history to win the award in three straight All-Star Games.

MN Lynx Brunson and Fowles Named to WNBA All-Defensive Second Team

MINNEAPOLIS/ST. PAUL – The WNBA today announced that Lynx forward Rebekkah Brunson and center Sylvia Fowles have been named to the WNBA All-Defensive Second Team. For Fowles, the 2018 Associated Press Defensive Player of the Year, this is her third WNBA All-Defensive Second Team selection (2008 and 2014) while Brunson earns her sixth career and second straight WNBA All-Defensive Second Team honor (2007, 2008, 2010, 2013, 2017).

Fowles started all 34 contests for Minnesota for the third straight year, averaging 17.7 points on a league-best 61.9 percent shooting, a WNBA-record 11.9 rebounds while adding a career-best 2.2 assists, a career-high 1.44 steals and 1.24 blocks in 31.9 minutes per game. The five-time All-Star led the WNBA in field goal accuracy and rebounding while ranking 12th in scoring, fifth in steals, ninth in blocks and ninth in minutes (31.9 mpg). She led the league while recording a franchise record 21 double-doubles in 2018, moving her career total to 149, passing Tina Charles for second on the all-time list. The Miami, Florida native not only set the WNBA single-season rebounding average record but compiled the most total rebounds (404) and the most defensive rebounds (282) in a single season in league history. Fowles became the sixth player in WNBA history to grab 3000 rebounds and moved past Taj McWilliams-Franklin into fifth on the WNBA's all-time list Aug. 17 at Connecticut. Among the various highlights in her 2018 season, Fowles picked off a career-high five steals on June 19 vs. Dallas and hauled in a club-record 20 rebounds on May 23 vs. Dallas, part of her third career 20+ point/20+ rebound performance.

Brunson, a WNBA All-Star this season for the fifth time in her career, averaged 7.2 points, 6.8 rebounds (14th in the WNBA) and a career-best 2.4 assists in 26.9 minutes per game. The Washington D.C. native totaled a season-high 15 points and 12 rebounds July 5 vs. Los Angeles, her 82nd career double-double, passing Yolanda Griffith for sixth on the WNBA's all-time list. With her 12-rebound performance in that July 5 contest, she overtook both Lisa Leslie (3307) and Tamika Catchings (3316) to become the WNBA's all-time leader in career rebounds.

UMC's Cleary Named 2017-18 D2CAA All-Central Region First Team

ST. PAUL, Minn. – University of Minnesota Crookston sophomore men’s basketball player Harrison Cleary (G, Oak Creek, Wis.) named named D2CAA All-Central Region First Team as announced Mon., March 12. Cleary becomes the first player since Joe Hasz following the 2002-03 season to represent Minnesota Crookston on an All-Region team.

Cleary joined Minot State University’s Tyler Rudolph as the only two NSIC players on the D2CAA All-Central Region First Team. Justin Pitts of Northwest Minnesota State University was named D2CAA Central Region Player of the Year. Ryan Bruggeman of Southwest Minnesota State University, Gage Davis of St. Cloud State University and Ian Smith of Northern State University represented the NSIC on the D2CAA All-Central Region Second Team.

Cleary was an All-NSIC First Team selection, also the first since Hasz since the 2002-03 season. He was the first back-to-back All-Conference honoree since Hasz. Cleary led the NSIC with 24.2 points per game. He was sixth in all of NCAA Division II for scoring. In addition, Cleary led the league by shooting 96.0 percent (143-of-149) from the charity stripe. Cleary was sixth in the NSIC for three-point shooting percentage at 47.0 percent. He was second in all of NCAA Division II for free throw shooting. Cleary tallied a school-record 702 points on the 2017-18 season. The sophomore has scored an astounding 1,342 points in just two seasons at Minnesota Crookston. Cleary needs just 597 points to move past Joe Hasz for No. 1 all-time in scoring for the Golden Eagles. Cleary has also scored 1,022 points in NSIC play, which is Top 30 all-time in the NSIC. He notched 19 games with 20 or more points, including a school-record 46 points against Minnesota State University. In addition, he tallied double-figure scoring 28 or 29 games on the season.

Cleary moves on to the D2CAA All-American ballot. The national teams will be announced Mon., March 19.
