CROOKSTON, Minn.- The University of Minnesota Crookston women’s basketball team announced the addition of Emily Gruber (6-0, F-C, Monticello, Minn./Monticello H.S.) to a National Letter of Intent Wednesday. Gruber is the first signee of the Late Signing Period, joining the four players who signed during the Early Signing Period.
“We are excited to add Emily to the UMC women’s basketball program,” said UMC Head Coach Mike Roysland. “We love Emily’s length and her ability to run the floor. She also possesses the ability to finish with both hands, which is something we love. Emily is the type of player that plays taller than she is. As time went on in her high school career, she is a player that really came into her own. We really believe that her best days are in front of her and are excited to see her grow into the player we think she can be.”
Emily played her senior year at Monticello H.S. after transferring in from Big Lake H.S. She led team to the Minnesota Class AAA State Tournament quarterfinals, where they lost to Washburn H.S. Emily went toe-to-toe with Metro Player of the Year Chase Coley, a University of Iowa recruit, in the quarterfinals. She had 24 points and eight boards against Washburn H.S. Emily scored 1,000 points in her career at Monticello H.S. and Big Lake H.S. She played varsity for three seasons. Emily averaged 13.4 points per game during the regular season for the Magic. She is the daughter of Dave and Terri.

Merrill, Wis./Merrill H.S.), Micaela Noga (G, 5-7, Parkers Prairie, Minn./Parkers Prairie H.S.), Isieoma Odor (F, 6-0, Bloomington, Minn./John F. Kennedy H.S.) and Gabby Smith (5-10, G-F, Bloomington, Minn./Jefferson H.S.).
The signees join eight returnees from the 2013-14 squad led by 2013-14 All-NSIC Second Team pick Katrina Moenkedick (Jr., F, Perham, Minn./Early Childhood Education). The Golden Eagles will also have seniors Ebony Livingston (G-F. Minneapolis, Minn./Sports and Rec Management), Kenzie Church (F, Fairmount, N.D./Management) and Ashley Martell (G, Somerset, Wis./Health Science) returning to the fray. Second-leading scorer Alexa Thielman (Jr., G, Buffalo, Minn./Health Science) also returns for UMC along with Christine Thorn (Jr., G, St. Michael, Minn./Elementary Education), Megan Taylor (So., C, Estelline, S.D./Animal Science) and Erika McRoberts (Jr., F-C, Byron, Minn./Health Science).
All signees are contingent upon admission to UMC and compliance with NCAA rules, including certification by the NCAA Eligibility Center. Everyone released today has signed their National Letter of Intent prior to the release of information.

Women's Basketball Adds Junior College Guard Loughlin to Signing Class

Crookston women’s basketball team announced the addition of Maria Loughlin (G,
5-7, Rogers, Minn./Anoka-Ramsey Community College) to a National Letter of
Intent. Loughlin is the second signee of the Late Signing Period for the Golden
Eagles joining Emily Gruber (5-11, F-C, Monticello,
Minn./Monticello H.S.).
The pair rounds out UMC’s signees bringing the total to six new players who are coming in for the Golden Eagles. Loughlin is the only junior college recruit coming in, while the other five are coming straight from high school. Gruber and Loughlin join Dawn Leland (6-1, G-F. Merrill, Wis./Merrill H.S.), Micaela Noga (G, 5-7, Parkers Prairie, Minn./Parkers Prairie H.S.), Isieoma Odor (F, 6-0, Bloomington, Minn./John F. Kennedy H.S.) and Gabby Smith (5-10, G-F, Bloomington, Minn./Jefferson H.S.).

She is the type of player that brings great energy to the team. She also has great court vision. We are also very excited to add someone with her experience, having played two years at the junior college level at Anoka-Ramsey Community College.”
Loughlin averaged 16.5 points, 3.5 rebounds and 3.4 assists per game at Anoka-Ramsey Community College as a sophomore. She shot 74.5 percent from the charity stripe. Loughlin notched season-high 28 points against University of Wisconsin-Stout in January. She had 20 points or more on 10 occasions. Loughlin tallied 27 points against Vermillion C.C. She notched 25 versus North Dakota State College of Science. She was selected to the All-Tournament team at the NJCAA National Tournament. While at Anoka-Ramsey, she was a two-time All-State First Team. She was an All-Region selection at Anoka-Ramsey. Loughlin scored over 900 points during her time in junior college and shot 35 percent on three-pointers. She was named the Athlete of the Year at Anoka-Ramsey Community College in 2014.
Before Anoka-Ramsey, Loughlin played at Rogers H.S. She led her team to a Section Championship victory during her senior season. Loughlin had a career-high 22 points in the Section 5AAA title game over Monticello H.S., including three 3-pointers and seven boards. She led Rogers H.S. to the State Tournament in 2008 and 2011. Loughlin is a three-time All-Mississippi 8 Conference pick. She holds the school record for three-pointers made per game.
She is the daughter of Steve and Terry Loughlin. Loughlin plans to major in health science at UMC. She was born July 6, 1992. Her brother Cullen Loughlin plays basketball at Anoka-Ramsey C.C. Loughlin’s cousin Kaila Urick ran track at the University of Minnesota. Her cousin Paige Baldwin played hockey at the University of St. Thomas, while her cousin Sydney Baldwin played hockey at the University of Minnesota. Her sister Camille Laughlin (24) is a University of Wisconsin-Stout graduate.
