GRAND FORKS, N.D. – Former
University of North Dakota standout Brock Nelson, who recently
completed his rookie season in the National Hockey League, has been
selected to play for the United States at the 2014 International Ice
Hockey Federation (IIHF) World Championship.
Nelson was one of the first 15 players named to the roster today
by USA Hockey for the upcoming championship, scheduled for May 9-25 in
Minsk, Belarus. A two-year letterwinner at UND in 2010-11 and 2011-12,
Nelson scored 14 goals and added 12 assists in 72 games this season
with the NHL’s New York Islanders, making him the team’s leading rookie
scorer.
The

World Junior Championship. In 84 career games at UND, Nelson amassed 36
goals and 32 assists and was named to the All-Western Collegiate Hockey
Association (WCHA) Third Team as a sophomore in 2011-12 after leading
the conference with 28 goals.
After
signing with the Islanders following his sophomore season, Nelson spent
the 2012-13 campaign with the American Hockey League’s Bridgeport
Sound Tigers, where he scored a team-leading 52 points and set a
