Minnesota Lynx today announced that they will be hosting the fifth
annual Military Appreciation Night on Sunday, September 6 when they host
the New York Liberty at 6 p.m. Minnesota will honor both active and
veteran service members from all five branches of the U.S. Armed Forces
throughout the game, while Lynx mascot Prowl will show his support by
sporting military attire.
Prior
to Sunday’s game, the Lynx Party Zone will have the 34th Infantry
Division’s band playing a medley of patriotic songs and military
standards as fans arrive. The first 500 fans to enter through the doors
will receive an American-made American flag.
This
year's celebration will also include an all-female color guard from the
Waseca American Legion Auxiliary as well as a fifty-foot American flag
on the floor during the national anthem, which will be performed by a
bugler.
At
halftime there will be a special presentation in which 16 individuals
will be sworn into the Marines. There will be also recognition for
Trista Matascastillo, the Chair of the Minnesota Women Veterans
Initiative Working Group as a part of the Inspiring Women series
presented by Land O’Lakes Inc.
Additionally,
the Adidas “deal of the game” will feature a military-inspired shirt,
which a portion of the proceeds will benefit the Women Veterans
