Sweep of Seawolves vaults North Dakota to No. 2 in national polls

GRAND FORKS, N.D. – Following a convincing two-game sweep of Alaska Anchorage, North Dakota has jumped from fifth to second in both the USCHO.com and USA Today/USA Hockey Magazine polls released today.

UND climbed past Yale, Minnesota Duluth and Denver and now sits behind only top-ranked Boston College, which was the unanimous No. 1 in each of this week’s polls.

The Sioux defeated UAA 6-1 on Friday and 3-1 on Saturday to take over first place in the Western Collegiate Hockey Association standings. UND also became the first WCHA team this season to secure home ice for the first round of the league’s playoffs.

UND has faced seven of the top 20 teams in this week’s USCHO poll, as well as two others which received votes.

The Sioux (21-8-2, 16-6-0 WCHA) take to the road next weekend for a WCHA series at St. Cloud State. UND owns a one-point lead over Denver in the WCHA standings, and a two-point lead over third-place Minnesota Duluth and Nebraska Omaha.
