Former Bison Andre Smith Retires Following Nine-Year Pro Career

Former North Dakota State men’s basketball standout Andre Smith has announced his retirement following a successful nine-year professional basketball career.

Smith played at NDSU from 2005-07 and went on to play professionally from 2007-16. His career took him to leagues in Switzerland, Japan, England, Turkey, Italy, Russia, South Korea and Lebanon.

A St. Paul, Minn., native, Smith averaged 15.5 points and 7.0 rebounds per game over his last five pro seasons.

“Andre defines what a true competitor is on and off the court,” said NDSU head coach David Richman. “The game of basketball has been good to Dre, and there’s no question he’s been good to the game. We wish Andre, Emily and their twin boys all the best in their future endeavors.”

Smith played two seasons at NDSU after transferring from North Dakota State College of Science. He averaged 15.3 points and 8.6 rebounds in 55 career games as a Bison, helping NDSU to wins over ranked opponents Wisconsin and Marquette in 2006.
