North Star Football Conference Honors Players of

(September 12, 2011)The North Star Football Conference has announced the Player of the Week award winners for the second week of the season.

The East Division honorees include:
Offensive Player of the Week – Kris Skersick from Bagley High School
Defensive Player of the Week – Brad Kusper from Blackduck High School
Special Teams Player of the Week – Kurt Kent from Pine River-Backus High School.

The West Division winners include:
Offensive Player of the Week – Lucas Solie from Fertile- Beltrami High School
Defensive Player of the Week – Garrett Schmitz from Red Lake County
Special Teams Player of the Week – Josh Erickson, also from Fertile- Beltrami High School.


Kris Skersick (Sr.) rushed for 152 yards in 9 carries. He had touchdown runs of 45 yards and 25 yards. He led the Flyers to a 43-0 win over Cass Lake-Bena.

Brad Kusper (Jr.) collected 15 total tackles during the Drakes loss to Pillager. Kusper had 7 solo tackles and 8 assists for the night.

Kurt Kent (Jr.) went 4 for 4 on extra point kicks. He also tallied 260 yards during his 6 kickoffs as PR-B defeated Walker-Hackensack-Akeley/Laporte 36-6.

Lucas Solie (Sr.) racked up 103 yards on 13 carries. Solie scored 3 touchdowns as the Falcons defeated Lake Park-Audubon 27-14.

Garrett Schmitz (Sr.) from Red Lake County continues his outstanding play. Schmitz was recognized as the West Division Offensive Player of the Week last Week. This week, he earned the Defensive honors with 6 tackles, 2 forced fumbles and a fumble recovery for his team as they defeated Fosston 36-20.

Josh Erickson (Sr.) hit 3 of 5 kickoffs for touchbacks and added 3 of 4 on extra point attempts as F-B defeated LP-A 27-14.

Other outstanding performances in the conference were turned in by Jarrett Stockman (Pine River-Backus), Trevor Willberg (Bagley), Tyler George (Bagley) and Dan Janu (Frazee).

Conference Action this week has: Bagley at Pillager, Blackduck at Lake of the Woods, Pine River-Backus at Cass Lake-Bena, Walker-Hackensack-Akeley/Laporte at Mahnomen, Fosston at Fertile-Beltrami, Lake Park-Audubon at Frazee, and Warren- Alvarado-Oslo at Red Lake County.
