ELMHURST, Ill. - North Dakota State forward Michael Tveidt was named to the All-Summit League men's basketball second team Thursday, March 3, by a vote of the league's head coaches, sports information directors and media.
Tveidt, a 6-foot-7 senior from Pierre, S.D., ranked ninth in the league-only stats in scoring with 15.9 points per game. He is NDSU's overall leader in scoring and is second in field-goal shooting (.494), 3-point shooting (.464) and free-throw shooting (.789).
Tveidt was a Summit League co-Player of the Week in November after scoring a season-high 27 points with seven rebounds in an overtime loss at Oregon. He scored in double figures in 26 of 28 games including another 27 points in the home win over Southern Utah and ranks 13th in school history with 1,394 career points.
Oakland took four of the five major individual awards, including the Player of the Year award to senior center Keith Benson, who became the fifth player in league history to win it in back-to-back years. Benson averaged 18.7 points and 10.1 rebounds in league play and was also named Defensive Player of the Year with a league-best 4.4 blocked shots per game.
Oakland's Larry Wright was named Sixth Man of the Year and Greg Kampe was named Coach of the Year after leading the Golden Grizzlies to their second straight league championship with a 17-1 record. Oral Roberts freshman Steven Roundtree was named Newcomer of the Year.
North Dakota State went 14-14 in the regular season and placed seventh in The Summit League with an 8-10 record. The Bison are scheduled to play No. 2 seed Oral Roberts (17-14, 13-5) in the Summit League quarterfinals at 8:30 p.m. Saturday, March 5, at Sioux Falls Arena in Sioux Falls, S.D.
