ELMHURST,
Ill. – The North Dakota State University women's basketball team was
picked to finish seventh in The Summit League preseason poll released
on Thursday, Oct. 6, by the league office.
NDSU tallied 156 points in the poll.
Junior guard Taylor Thunstedt, an Honorable Mention All-Summit League selection last season, was voted to the preseason all-league second team after averaging a team-high 17 points and 3.2 assists per game in 2015-16. A native of Spicer, Minn., Thunstedt enters the 2016-17 season ranked second in NDSU career three-point field-goal percentage at 39.4 percent and sixth in three-point field goals made with 137 shots from beyond-the-arc.
Defending Summit League tournament champion South Dakota State was tabbed the preseason favorite with 542 points and 30 first-place votes, while IUPUI was picked second with 438 points. South Dakota, the WNIT champion last season, rounded out the top-three in third with 393 points and three first-place votes.
Oral Roberts collected the final first-place vote and was voted fourth with 391 points.
Omaha, Western Illinois, NDSU, Denver and Fort Wayne rounded out the poll.
North Dakota State is scheduled to host Bemidji State in an exhibition game on Thursday, Nov. 3, in the first-ever women's basketball contest in the new Scheels Center inside the Sanford Health Athletic Complex. The regular season tips off with the Bison hosting Dickinson State Saturday, Nov. 12.
