THIEF
RIVER FALLS, MINN. (August 20, 2015) – Three Northland Pioneers were
recognized by the NJCAA for academic honors for the 2014-2015 sports
season. The NJCAA Student Athlete awards were previously recognized by
the NJCAA as Academic All American honors. Brooke Anderson and Crystal
Amundson received the Superior Academic Achievement award which are for
student athletes who have completed three full time semester’s with a
GPA between (3.80-3.99). Kayla Schmitz received the Exemplary Academic
Achievement Award which are for student athletes who have completed
three full time semester’s with a GPA between (3.60-3.79).
Brooke
Anderson was a member of the Pioneer Volleyball last season and
graduated with her Liberal Arts and Sciences Degree. Brooke graduated
from Lincoln high school in Thief River Falls and her parents are
Nicole Bottem and Michael Anderson of Thief River Falls.
Crystal
Amundson was a member of the Pioneer Volleyball, Women’s Basketball and
Softball teams last season and graduated with her Liberal Arts and
Sciences Degree. Crystal graduated from Lincoln high school in Thief
River Falls and her parents are Ronda and Larry Amundson of Thief River
Falls. Crystal will continue her athletics at Concordia College in
Moorhead to play Women’s Basketball.
Kayla
Schmitz was a member of the Pioneer Softball team last season and
graduated with her degree in Massage Therapy. Kayla graduated from
Lafayette high school in Red Lake Falls and her parents are Bobby and
Marlys Schmitz.
All three of Northland’s Women’s teams were among the teams recognized with GPA’s over 3.00. Northland’s Volleyball team had a 3.45 GPA, Women’s Basketball team had a 3.19 overall GPA and Softball had a 3.27 GPA.
The 2014-2015 season marks the 32nd year the NJCAA has recognized the success of its student-athletes in the classroom. With minimal changes, the NJCAA academic awards program has been in place since 1983.
