MINNEAPOLIS/ST. PAUL –
The WNBA today named Minnesota Lynx forward Maya Moore the Western
Conference Player of the Week for games played Monday, July 27 through
Sunday, August 2. The Player of the Week award is Moore’s third of the
season and the 13th of her career.
Moore
led all Western Conference scorers for the week with 23.3 points per
game, ranked sixth in the WNBA in assists with 3.8 assists per game and
seventh in rebounding with 7.3 rebounds per game. Moore registered
game-high totals of 25 points and five assists against Connecticut July
22, playing all 45 minutes for the third complete game of her career.
She was named Most Valuable Player of the 2015 WNBA All Star Game on
July 25, after tallying an All Star Game-record 30 points, six rebounds
and five assists in the West’s 117-112 victory.
Moore
led all scorers with 27 points, seven rebounds and three steals in the
July 29 win over Los Angeles where she sank consecutive baskets in the
game’s final two minutes after the Sparks had rallied to within three.
Earlier in the week, Moore collected 21 points, 10 rebounds and five
assists in the July 31 win over Atlanta, making her 26th career
double-double and eighth time she’s amassed 20+ points, 10+ rebounds and
5+ assists in one game. She finished the week by scoring 16 of 20
points in the fourth quarter in a victory over the Shock for Minnesota’s
12th consecutive win at the BOK Center. Moore has now scored 20+ points
in each of her past 11 games, tying Cynthia Cooper for the
second-longest such run in WNBA history.
New York's Tina Charles was named Eastern Conference Player of the Week.
The
Lynx play next on Tuesday, August 4 at Staples Center against the Los
Angeles Sparks. Tip-off is scheduled for 9:00 p.m. CT and the game can
be seen on ESPN 2 and heard on BOB 106.1 FM.
