GRAND
FORKS, N.D. – University of
North Dakota senior forward Mark MacMillan and sophomore defenseman Paul LaDue
were recognized today by the National Collegiate Hockey Conference (NCHC) after
combining for 12 points in North Dakota’s conference sweep at Colorado College
last weekend.
MacMillan, who racked up
seven points in the two wins, was named NCHC Offensive Player of the Week,
while LaDue, who had five points in the series, was the NCHC Defenseman of the
Week.
MacMillan registered his
first collegiate hat trick and collected a career-high five points in
Saturday’s 7-2 win over the Tigers, becoming UND’s first player to score five
points in a game since Ryan Martens on Dec. 5, 2008 at Harvard. Two of his
goals came shorthanded, tying a UND single-game record previously held only by
Russ Romaniuk (12/02/90) and Mike Burggraf (12/09/78).
A native of Penticton,
British Columbia, MacMillan also scored two of UND’s three goals in Friday’s
3-1 win. He also 60 percent (24-for-40) of his faceoffs in the series,
including a 14-for-18 mark on Saturday.
LaDue enjoyed a 5-point
series, including a career-best four points on Saturday. The Grand Forks, N.D.,
native scored two power-play goals and added a pair of assists Saturday while
leading the team with six shots on goal. In Friday’s 3-1 victory, LaDue
assisted on Brendan O’Donnell’s game-winning goal.
LaDue played a key role
for UND’s special teams in both victories, anchoring a 6-for-16 effort on the
power-play and a 9-for-11 performance on the penalty kill.
Denver forward Danton
Heinen was named NCHC Rookie of the Week and Omaha’s Ryan Massa was the NCHC
Goaltender of the Week.
