UMC Women’s Basketball Picked 13th in NSIC Preseason Poll




BURNSVILLE, Minn. – The University of Minnesota Crookston women’s basketball team was chosen to finish 13th in the 2014-15 NSIC Women’s Basketball Preseason Coaches’ Poll released last Thursday by the conference office. They were selected seventh in the NSIC North.

Concordia University, St. Paul was picked first with 216 points and 10 first-place votes, while Wayne State College (Neb.) was selected second with six first-place votes and 213 points. Northern State University’s Rachel Krogram, who was a Second Team All-Central Region pick during the 2013-14 season, was picked NSIC North Division Preseason Player of the Year. She averaged 15.5 points and 10.0 rebounds. Concordia’s Anika Whiting was picked as the NSIC South Division Preseason Player of the Year.

UMC junior guard Alexa Thielman was picked as UMC’s NSIC Player to Watch after a breakout year last season. Thielman averaged 15.2 points and 4.4 assists as a sophomore. She started all 27 games at guard and led the team with 60 assists. Thielman poured in a career-high 30 points Nov. 30 against Bemidji State and tallied 20 or more points on eight occasions.

The Golden Eagles open up their regular-season schedule Nov. 14 at the MSU Moorhead Tournament in Moorhead, Minn. against Northern Michigan University.
