Philco's Phocus - The Alma Mater

There it is, Red Lake Falls, MN

I know homecoming was a couple of weeks ago for my alma mater Lafayette High School in beautiful, scenic Red Lake Falls, MN but I wasn't able to get back for any of the festivities.  Homecoming is always a fun week.  Dress up days, pep fests, powder puff football, home volleyball matches plus the Friday night football game and dance to cap things off.

The Red Lake County Courthouse, located right in the heart of Red Lake Falls

To be honest, or to put it in terms high school students would be able to understand with social media and blogs, "tbh"; I wasn't much into getting out and enjoying the festivities unless they were sanctioned during school hours.  Hence, the dance was not part of my regiment.  I don't recall attending any dances back in high school, but I still did my part of the teams I was associated with, both football and basketball (when they were the Red Lake Falls Eagles, prior to the RLF/RLCC merger for boys sports).

If the Red Lake Falls, there's always the Clearwater (River)

Lots of scenery located in Red Lake Falls!

Being in radio, I guess you have to  be a little more outgoing.  One of my former English teachers used to give me grief because I would hardly say a word back in high school, yet now I'm living my life in a career on the radio.  I simply told her, "I only talk when I get paid to."

I don't just write when I get paid to, but when you promote a team or two, you have some great people willing to jump on board and support it!

Before I get any further into my blog labeled "Philco's Phocus" - I have to thank them there sponsors!  You like that, Mrs. Matzke??  Don't you wish you would have paid me not only to talk, but to pay attention in class??  I was going to put 'dem dare' but I figured I'd be a little more professional than that.
And here they are...

As I mentioned, homecoming 2014 has come and gone, but I'll be making my way back home this week on Friday evening to take to the sidelines for the first time in fourteen years, this time without pads on.  In other words, the first time in fourteen years it won't be painful for this guy to  be on that field after a game.  Now that I say that, I better watch my back ... With Darvin Schoenborn on one sideline and Coach Remick and Coach Philipp on the other, they just may lay the smack down on me, resulting in the need to ice after the game in my old locker room.  None the less, it shall be a good time this Friday, October 10th in Red Lake Falls.  Coach Philipp has also told me to bring my cup, just in case.  They must be serving coffee on the sidelines for all media to enjoy.  How nice of them!

I threw together some questions for this year's senior members of my alma mater and they so graciously responded in a timely manner.  So without further ado, it's time to Phocus on the senior members of the Red Lake Falls Eagles volleyball team who I had the chance to cover this past Monday night in Fertile!  Then, we'll see you in the Falls of Red Lake Friday night for the Rebels vs. Indians when we Phocus on the football players live on the radio!  If you can't make it, tune it!!
