Timberwolves Secure No. 13 Pick in 2014 NBA Draft


Minneapolis/St. Paul – The Minnesota Timberwolves were awarded the 13th overall pick in the 2014 NBA Draft at tonight's NBA Draft Lottery. The 2014 NBA Draft will take place on Thursday, June 26 at the Barclays Center in Brooklyn, N.Y., beginning at 6 p.m. CT and be broadcast on ESPN.

Originally slated to draft in the 13th position, the Timberwolves entered tonight's NBA Draft Lottery with a 96.02 percent chance of maintaining that pick. The Wolves came into tonight with a 2.18 percent chance at landing a top-three pick, and a 1.80 percent chance of moving back. Minnesota will select 13th for the first time in franchise history.

Hall of Famer Karl Malone was the 13th overall pick in 1985 and future Hall of Famer Kobe Bryant was picked in that slot in 1996. Other notable players selected 13th overall include Jalen Rose (1994), Corey Maggette (1999) and Richard Jefferson (2001). 

Along with the 13th overall pick, the Wolves also have three second-round picks: the 40th (from New Orleans), 44th and 53rd (from Golden State) overall picks.
