UMC softball signs Courtney Bridge

(Crookston, Minn.)- University of Minnesota, Crookston Head Women’s Softball Coach Mitch Bakken announced today the signing of Courtney Bridge from Port Coquitlam, British Columbia to a National Letter of Intent to play for the Golden Eagles during the 2011-12 season.

Bridge is a 5-8, shortstop from Burnaby Mountain Secondary School. She plays club softball for the Richmond Islanders “A” 93 team. Bridge is a four-year club team captain and has earned 12 MVP tournament awards. In the classroom, she is an honor roll student and received the “Gold Cord” for academic excellence.

“Courtney is a very versatile player. She can swing from the right side and slap from the left side of the plate which is going to bring an added dimension to our lineup,” says Bakken. “Defensively she will be asked to take over the shortstop position that was vacated by one of our seniors. She is a tough competitor and I think she will do a great job as a freshman filling that role.”

Bridge plans to major in environmental sciences at the University of Minnesota, Crookston. She is the daughter of Robin and Chris Bridge.
