GRAND
FORKS, N.D. – University of North
Dakota junior Troy Stecher has been named National Collegiate Hockey Conference
(NCHC) Defenseman of the Week for his performance in North Dakota’s
non-conference series with Bemidji State last weekend.
Stecher scored the game-winning
goal midway through the third period on Saturday, turning a 2-2 tie into a 5-2
home win for top-ranked UND. One night earlier, Stecher dished out a pair of
assists in a 4-4 overtime tie in Bemidji. The Richmond, British Columbia,
native was also a plus-2 in the series and anchored a defensive effort that
limited the Beavers to just 41 total shots on goal on the weekend.
It is the third career NCHC
Defenseman of the Week honor for Stecher, who leads all NCHC defensemen in
points (5) and assists (4) through the first four games of the season.
UND senior forward Drake
Caggiula (Offensive), junior Matt Hrynkiw (Goaltender) and freshman forward
Brock Boeser (Rookie) were also nominated for this week’s NCHC honors. Omaha’s
Austin Ortega, St. Cloud State’s Charlie Lindgren, and Miami’s Jack Roslovic
received those awards, respectively.
Stecher and UND continue non-conference
play on Friday and Saturday at the University of Vermont.
