MINNEAPOLIS/ST. PAUL – The WNBA today named Minnesota Lynx forward Maya Moore its Western Conference Player of the Week presented by Boost Mobile for games played Monday, Sept. 3 through Sunday, Sept. 9. This is the second time this season Moore has received the honor, previously earning it for the week of Aug. 16-19. The 2011 WNBA Rookie of the Year, Moore earned Rookie of the Month honors twice last season (July and August). The honor is the second time a Lynx player has been named Player of the Week this season.
Moore led the Lynx to a 3-0 record on the week, recording victories over three playoff-bound teams in Los Angeles, Atlanta and San Antonio. Opening the week against the Sparks, Moore scored 23 points and grabbed nine rebounds, while matching a franchise record with a career-high seven steals. Three days later, Moore led the Lynx to a 25-point comeback against the Dream, the largest comeback in franchise history and matching the largest in WNBA history. She scored 23 points and grabbed 12 rebounds for her fifth double-double of the season, including scoring 17 points in the second half with 6-of-8 shooting from the field. Moore finished the week with an 18-point effort against San Antonio, leading Minnesota in points/assists/rebounds, her second time accomplishing the feat this season. The game was her second consecutive double-double and sixth of the season, as the Lynx clinched the first overall seed in the Western Conference with an 81-62 victory over the Silver Stars.
She finished the week second in the Western Conference in scoring (21.3 ppg), second in rebounds (11.0 rpg), first in steals (3.3 spg), tied for sixth in assists (4.0 apg) and sixth in field goal percentage (.489). This season, Moore ranks 13th in the WNBA in scoring (16.1 ppg), 14th in rebounding (6.3 rpg), 8th in free throw percentage (87.2%), 11th in steals (1.57 spg) and 18th in field goal percentage (46.1%). Moore also ranks first among forwards with 3.6 assists per game.
Atlanta’s Lindsey Harding awas named the Eastern Conference Player of the Week.
Minnesota finishes the regular season on the road for five of its final six games, including tomorrow’s matchup against the Sky in Chicago and Friday’s matchup with the Fever in Indianapolis. The Lynx return home for Fan Appreciation Night presented by Best Buy on Monday, September 17. After the game, the entire Lynx roster will stay on the court to sign autographs for fans.
