It was a series of firsts for Wahlund, who earned her first career Athlete of the Week award after capturing first place in her first collegiate race. Wahlund led NDSU to a first-place team finish at the Bison Invitational held at Rose Creek Golf Course in Fargo on Aug. 31. The Minot, N.D., native finished the five-kilometer race with a time of 18:14.47.
"On Friday, Brecca competed for the first time since May of 2011, and therefore we didn't know what to expect," said NDSU head women's cross country coach Ryun Godfrey. "They ran as a pack for almost four kilometers, and it was good to see that Brecca was not afraid to take control late in the race. I'm excited about her performance as well as the entire team."
Wahlund and the Bison will return to action on Sept. 14 at the South Dakota State Invitational in Brookings, S.D.
