ELMHURST, Ill. - The North Dakota State women's golf team was picked to finish third in The Summit League according to a preseason poll of the league's 10 head coaches released Wednesday, Feb. 8.
Fourteen-time defending league champion Oral Roberts was picked first with 79 points and seven first-place votes and UMKC was second with 75 points and three top votes ahead of the Bison with 59 points.
IUPUI was fourth (57, Oakland fifth (47), South Dakota State sixth (40), Southern Utah seventh (36), Western Illinois eighth (29), IPFW ninth (19) and South Dakota last (9).
North Dakota State is led by Amy Anderson, a junior from Oxbow, N.D., who leads The Summit League by more than three full strokes with a 72.82 average. Anderson was Summit League champion and tied for 12th at the NCAA championship last year.
The Bison are fifth in the league in team scoring with a 316.91 average. Oral Roberts leads the league at 308.25.
NDSU coach Matt Johnson, a teaching professional since 1995 and owner of The Sports Bubble in Fargo since 2004, is in his third season with the Bison. He coached the NDSU men's team from 2001 to 2004.
North Dakota State is scheduled to open the spring portion of its schedule Feb. 27-28 at the Texas A&M Corpus Christi Islander Classic. The Bison have four tournaments scheduled before the Summit League championship April 23-24 at the Primm Valley Golf Club in Primm, Nev.
