ELMHURST, Ill. - The North Dakota State men's golf team was picked to finish ninth in The Summit League according to a preseason poll of the league's 10 head coaches released Tuesday, Feb. 7.
Defending champion UMKC was picked to win with 74 points and three first-place votes, IUPUI was second with 73 points and six first-place votes, and Southern Utah was third with 67 points and one top vote.
Oral Roberts placed fourth with 56 points and the next four spots were separated by only five points. South Dakota State was fifth (41), IPFW sixth (39), Western Illinois seventh (37) and Oakland eighth (36).
North Dakota State (17) and South Dakota (10) rounded out the voting. NDSU placed ninth at last year's league championship.
Senior Zach Stenstad from Woodbury, Minn., is NDSU's leading golfer with a 76.00 stroke average that ranks 27th in The Summit League. IUPUI leads the league in team scoring at 292.71 and North Dakota State is ninth at 307.92.
NDSU's coach is Billy Iverson, the assistant golf professional at Oxbow Country Club. Iverson is in his eighth year with the Bison.
North Dakota State is scheduled to open the spring portion of its schedule Feb. 27-28 hosting the Quintero Invitational against Creighton and Nebraska Omaha at the Quintero Golf and Country Club in Peoria, Ariz.
The Bison have three tournaments scheduled before the Summit League championship April 23-24 at the Primm Valley Golf Club in Primm, Nev.
