All boys and girls ages 10 to 14 as of Jan. 1, 2012, are invited to participate in a local level of competition for the 2012 Knights of Columbus Free Throw Championship.
This event in Mahnomen is being hosted by the Mahnomen Knights of Columbus Council #2573 on Saturday, Jan. 28th, 11:30 a.m., at the Mahnomen High School gymnasium, Mahnomen, MN. Registration begins at 11:15 a.m., immediately following the Mahnomen Elementary recreation program. The Free Throw Shooting Contest in Ada will be on Sunday, Jan. 29th, at 1pm at the Ada-Borup High School.
Winners in each gender/age level will progress through local, district, and state competitions. International champions are announced by the K of C International Headquarters based on scores from the state-level competitions.
Boys and girls from the surrounding schools, 10 to 14 years (Jan. 1st) are encouraged to participate and will compete in their respective age and gender divisions for this local competition. Boys and girls, ages 10 and 11 will shoot from a 12’ foul line using a woman’s regulation sized basketball. Boys and girls ages 12, 13, and 14 will shoot from the normal regulation 15’ foul line, with girls using a regulation woman sized basketball. All contestants at the local level are recognized for their participation with participation certificates. Winners from this local competition will advance to the District level of competition, which will be held on Sunday, Feb. 12th.
This is a wonderful opportunity for our youth to participate in a fun-filled event that promotes good sportsmanship and competition. In past years, winners from our local level have advanced all the way to the state competition.
