UMC's Selvestra Named CoSIDA Academic All-District

CROOKSTON, Minn. - University of Minnesota Crookston football player Drew Selvestra (R-Sr., DL, Eagan, Minn.), a criminal justice major who has maintained a 3.65 cumulative grade point average, has been selected to the 2015 College Sports Information Director's of America (CoSIDA) Academic All-District Football Team for Super Region 3. Selvestra's selection marks the third-consecutive year that a UMC football player has been selected Academic All-District with Matt Borowicz earning All-District honors in 2013 and 2014. Borowicz went on to earn Academic All-America First Team honors in 2014. Selvestra is now eligible to be selected to the CoSIDA Academic All-America Team, which will be released Wed., Dec. 2.
Selvestra has been a staple on the defensive line for the Golden Eagles for four seasons. He has found success on the field including being named All-NSIC North Honorable Mention last season, along with being named USA College Football Preseason All-America Honorable Mention. His breakout season came in 2014 with 88 tackles, 8.5 tackles for loss and 4.5 sacks. During his four-year career, Selvestra has amassed 10 sacks, which ranks sixth all-time.
In the classroom, Selvestra has been equally as stellar, earning NSIC All-Academic three times. In addition, he has been named to the Dean's List during the Fall of 2012, 2013 and 2014. Selvestra is planning to go on to a career in law enforcement.
This season, he has battled injuries, but has tallied 32 tackles with two tackles for loss and a half sack. Selvestra has started six games but missed three games. He is looking to end his career on a strong note in the last two games.

This is the fifth year of the expanded Academic All-America® program as CoSIDA recognizes four teams - NCAA Division I, NCAA Division II and NCAA Division III participants, while the College Division Academic All-District Team combines NAIA, Canadian and two-year schools. Previously, CoSIDA recognized a University Division (Division I) and a College Division (all non-Division I); with the four teams, CoSIDA has doubled the number of scholar-athletes honored.

The Division II and Division III Academic All-America® program is being financially supported by the NCAA Division II and III national governance structures, to assist CoSIDA with handling the awards fulfillment aspects for the 2015-16 DII and DIII Academic All-America® teams program.
Selvestra was one of 25 players named to the CoSIDA Academic All-District Team for Super Region 3.
