UMC's Roysland Named NSIC Coach of the Year

BURNSVILLE, Minn.- University of Minnesota Crookston women’s basketball coach Mike Roysland was announced as the Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference (NSIC) Coach of the Year, as announced by the conference office Thursday morning. This is the first time in his eighth year with the Golden Eagles that Roysland has earned Coach of the Year honors.

Mike Roysland was voted by his peers as the 2014-15 NSIC Women’s Basketball Coach of the Year.  During the 2014-15 campaign, Roysland has led the Golden Eagles to one of their most successful seasons in program history. The Golden Eagles have 14 wins this season, the most in the Roysland era, and won their first NSIC Tournament game since 2003.  The 14 wins surpassed his previous high of 13 wins accomplished by the 2010-11 team, who earned a berth in the NSIC Tournament, when the tourney took just the top eight teams.

Roysland, who is in his eighth year leading Minnesota Crookston, led the Maroon and Gold to third place finish in the NSIC North Division and an eighth place finish in the overall standings. In addition, Coach Roysland’s squad has received four weekly honors from the NSIC office, a program record, led by two NSIC North Player of the Week honors from Katrina Moenkedick, one from Alexa Thielman and one from Emily Gruber.

Roysland will lead his squad in the quarterfinals of the NSIC/Sanford Health Tournament Saturday at 2:30 p.m. against Minnesota State University, Mankato at the Sanford Pentagon in Sioux Falls, S.D.
