NDSU Baseball Picked Fourth in Summit League Preseason Poll


ELMHURST, Ill. – The defending Summit League tournament champion North Dakota State baseball team was picked to finish fourth in The Summit League in a preseason poll of the league's six head coaches released Thursday, Feb. 5.

For the second consecutive season, Omaha has been tabbed to claim its third-straight Summit League regular season baseball title. The Mavericks received three of six first-place votes and a total of 23 points. Oral Roberts placed second with the other three first-place votes and 21 points. South Dakota State came in third with 17 points followed by the Bison with 15 points. Western Illinois (8 points) and Fort Wayne (6 points) rounded out the poll.

NDSU captured its first tournament championship in program history last season and are led by MVP Reed Pfannenstein with a 4-1 record and 2.86 ERA. Also returning to the mound for the Bison are second team all-leaguers and all-tournament team selections Parker Trewin (7-3, 2.57 ERA) and David Ernst (3.60 ERA, 48 K). Reliever Trevor Jaunich also returns after leading the team with seven saves. At the plate, all-tournament team performer Jon Hechtner is welcomed back after batting .278 with 27 runs.

The Bison begin the 2015 season on Friday, Feb. 13, at Grand Canyon in Phoenix, Ariz. First pitch is scheduled for 7 p.m. MT (8 p.m. CT).
