Three NDSU Players Named to MVFC All-Newcomer Team




ST. LOUIS, Mo. – North Dakota State had three players named to the Missouri Valley Football Conference All-Newcomer Team on Tuesday, Dec. 2, by a vote of the league's head coaches, sports information directors and media.

 
Cornerback Tre Dempsey, right guard Jeremy Kelly and defensive tackle Nate Tanguay were the three Bison players selected.
 
Dempsey, a redshirt freshman from Lakeland, Fla., played in 11 of 12 games with a season-high eight tackles in his only start at Missouri State.  He has 38 tackles, five breakups and one forced fumble, and is one of NDSU's leaders with seven tackles on special teams duty.
 
Kelly, a redshirt junior from Somerset, Wis., started all 12 games after transferring from Minnesota-Crookston and sitting out the 2013 season.  He had a team-high 49 knockdowns and was named MVFC Offensive Lineman of the Week following the win over Youngstown State.
 
Tanguay, a redshirt freshman from Mukwonago, Wis., made all 12 starts and played more than 40 defensive snaps per game as part of NDSU's defensive line rotation.  He has 32 tackles including 5.0 tackles for loss and 3.0 sacks with a forced fumble, two quarterback hurries and a pass breakup.
 
North Dakota State (11-1) won a share of its fourth straight conference championship with a 7-1 league record and earned the No. 2 seed for the Football Championship Subdivision playoffs.  The Bison host South Dakota State (9-4) in a second round game at 2:30 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 6.
