NDSU Coach Named USTFCCCA Midwest Region Women’s Coach of the Year

North Dakota State University head women’s track & field and cross country coach Ryun Godfrey was named the Midwest Region Women’s Coach of the Year for the 2014 indoor season, the U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA) announced on Monday, March 10.

Godfrey, in his 15th year leading NDSU, directed his team to the Summit League title as the squad combined to win all but one running event at the league meet. Godfrey guided the team’s 4×400 relay to its first NCAA Championship bid in school history with a national top-10 time.

Under Godfrey’s direction, the Bison women have won all 13 league titles in track & field (seven indoor, six outdoor) since joining the league for the 2007-08 season. With the team championships in cross country and indoor track & field already secured this year, NDSU is an outdoor title away from winning its third straight Summit League ‘Triple Crown’ – sweeping the league’s cross country, indoor and outdoor team championships.

The Bison have won a combined 29 conference titles in indoor track, outdoor track and cross country since Godfrey became the head coach in 1999.

The Midwest Region is home to teams from 13 conferences including the Atlantic 10, Big 12, Big East, Big Sky, Big 10, Conference USA, Horizon League, Mid-American, Missouri Valley, Ohio Valley, Summit League, SEC and WAC, spanning across nine different states (Illinois, Iowa, Kansas, Minnesota, Missouri, Nebraska, North Dakota, Oklahoma and South Dakota).
