NDSU player named Summit League Pitcher of the Week

ELMHURST, Ill. - North Dakota State's John Straka was named Summit League baseball Pitcher of the Week by the league office for the seventh time in his career Monday, April 1.

Straka, a senior right-hander from Chaska, Minn., pitched all seven innings of a 1-0 victory over North Dakota, extending his school record for career shutouts to seven. His 10 strikeouts were one shy of his career high.

Straka allowed six hits and zero walks. He fanned back-to-back hitters to strand two runners in scoring position in the third inning and struck out the side in the fourth.

It was the third award of the season for Straka, who moved into a tie with Alex Gonzalez of Oral Roberts for the second most Pitcher of the Week awards in league history.

North Dakota State (12-11) is scheduled to open Summit League play with a four-game series at South Dakota State (12-9) beginning Friday, April 5.
