UND's Frattin named National Player of the Month

GRAND FORKS, N.D. – North Dakota senior forward Matt Frattin is the Hockey Commissioners’ Association (HCA) National Division I Player of the Month for March/April.

The 6-foot, 206-pound forward helped the Fighting Sioux to an 8-1-0 record in April, and Western Collegiate Hockey Association (WCHA) regular season and tournament championships by recording nine goals and nine assists. He tallied one power-play goal, one shorthanded goal and three game-winning goals.

Frattin finished March and April with a +11 rating while averaging 2.00 points per game in nine contests.

The Edmonton, Alberta, native had a pair of four-point games, one three-point game and five multiple-point contests in March and April. Frattin scored both game-winning goals for North Dakota in the WCHA Final Five and was named the tournament’s most valuable player.

Frattin opened the month with a goal and three assists, including the game-winning goal, at Michigan Tech, and added another goal and two more assists the following night. Frattin opened the WCHA playoffs against MTU with a hat trick and an assist, with the hat trick coming off a power-play, short-handed and even-strength goal.

At the WCHA Final Five, Frattin scored the game-winning goal in the semifinal matchup against Colorado College, and the game-winning goal in double overtime of the WCHA Final Five championship game against Denver. He recorded a goal and two assists at the NCAA Midwest Regional in wins over Rensselaer and Denver, advancing the Fighting Sioux to the Frozen Four for the 19th time in school history.

Frattin led the NCAA with 36 goals and ranked second with 60 points this season and was named the College Hockey News’ Player of the Year, a Hobey Hat Trick finalist, and an American Hockey Coaches Association (WCHA) All-America first team selection.

Colorado College forward Jaden Schwartz is the HCA Rookie of the Month.
