BEAVERTON, Ore. - Minnesota State - Moorhead Junior forward Angie Jetvig racked up another honor announced Tuesday by the Women's Division II Bulletin, the monthly newsletter of NCAA DII Women's Basketball, as she was named an honorable mention All-American.
Jetvig finished the 2010-11 season by leading the Dragons and the NSIC in scoring with 19.3 points per game. She was also ranked No.15 in the nation in scoring.
She finished the season shooting 52.1 percent form the floor, 46.5 percent from beyond the arc and 86.5 percent from the charity stripe. Jetvig also tallied 8.2 rebounds per game and 1.3 blocks per game.

Jetvig Recieves State Farm Coaches' All-America Team Honorable Mention
The Women's Basketball Coaches Association (WBCA) and State Farm® announced today the 2011 National Collegiate Athletic Association Division II State Farm Coaches' All-America Team. Minnesota State University Moorhead's Angie Jetvig recieved an Honorable Mention.
The Hawley native led the Dragon women and the Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference in scoring this season, averaging 19.3 points per game. She finished the season shooting 52.1 percent form the floor, 46.5 percent from beyond the arc and 86.5 percent from the charity stripe. Jetvig also tallied 8.2 rebounds per game and 1.3 blocks per game.

Jetvig Honored on Daktronics All-Central Region First Team
GUNNISON, Colo. – Minnesota State University Moorhead junior, Angie Jetvig was one of two Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference women's basketball players honored on Wednesday as a first team selection ot the Daktronics All-Central Region Team.
NSIC Player of the Year Ashley Arlen of No. 9 Wayne (Neb.) State earned Daktronics All-Central Region Player of the Year honors to headline the regional team. Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference Player of the Year Dana Schreibvogel of No. 5 Fort Lewis finished second in the first team voting that concluded Monday night by the Division II Sports Information Directors in the region. Vera Jo Bustos of Adams State, Jetvig and Christina Whitelaw of Colorado Christian rounded out the first team selections.
Jetvig led the region with 19.3 points per game and was fourth in the NSIC with 8.3 rebounds per game. She finished with 15 games of 20 or more points, and scored in double figures in all but two games this season. She also finished with seven double-doubles, including 13 points and 10 rebounds in the NSIC quarterfinal game at Northern State.
Arlen is making her second straight appearance on the Daktronics first team after leading her team to the semifinals of the NSIC Tournament last weekend. The Wildcats earned the No. 3 seed for the NCAA Central Region Tournament that starts Friday in Durango, Colo.
Schriebvogel led the Skyhawks to their first RMAC Shootout championship last weekend. She's leading the RMAC with 18.7 points per game and a 57.9 percent mark from the field. Fort Lewis, the defending national runner-up, is the top seed for the Central Region tournament for the second straight season.
Bustos is back on the first team for the first time in two seasons and helped the Grizzlies qualify for the national tournament for the second straight season. She was a two-time RMAC Offensive Player of the Week selection and led the region with 2.9 three-pointers made per game.
Whitelaw was the RMAC Defensive Player and Freshman of the Year, and is leading Division II with 5.3 steals per game this season. She was a four-time conference defensive player of the week and helped lead the Cougars to their first NCAA postseason appearance.
Eight all-region teams were selected throughout the nation this week by the Division II Sports Information Directors. The top five student-athletes from each region will be considered for All-America honors, which will be released on Tuesday, March 22, ahead of the Elite Eight games in St. Joseph, Mo.

Concordia Starting Five Earns MIAC Postseason Honors
MOORHEAD, Minn. (3/07/11)—All five of Concordia’s starting players received MIAC postseason honors it was announced by the league office on Monday.
Seniors guards Erica Nord and Maggie Bauernfeind earned MIAC All-Conference honors while Brittany Jossart, Lindsey Schultz and Alexandra Lippert were placed on the MIAC All-Conference Honorable Mention Team. Nord was also named to the MIAC All-Defensive Team and Lippert was one of five newcomers to earn MIAC All-First-Year Team honors.
Concordia senior Jaynie Herbranson was the team's representative on the All-MIAC Sportsmanship Team.
It is the second straight season for Nord and Bauernfeind to earn All-Conference honors as well as the second consecutive season that Schultz has been named to the All-Conference Honorable Mention Team. Nord also earns All-Defensive Team honors for the second straight year.
The starting five helped Concordia win the MIAC postseason tournament and earn the league’s automatic berth into the NCAA Tournament. The Cobbers went 17-5 in league play for the third straight season and finished in second place in the final conference standings. Concordia then went on to beat St. Ben’s in the league playoff semifinals before edging regular-season champion St. Thomas in the MIAC championship game. It was the second conference tournament title for the Cobbers in school history.

Like Nord, Bauernfeind reached the 1,000-point mark for her career in the team’s last regular-season game against St. Ben’s.
Jossart and Schultz both averaged over 6.0 points per game and 3.0 rebounds per game as they helped the Cobbers finish the season with 17 conference wins. Jossart averaged 7.7 points and 3.2 rebounds per conference game. Both numbers are career conference highs. She scored in double figures 10 times against MIAC opponents and had a season-high 15 points against St. Thomas on Jan. 12. Schultz was second on the team in rebounding and finished 10th in the MIAC in that category with a 6.6 rebounds per game average. She surpassed the 500 career rebound mark during the season and had at least five rebounds in 19 of the team’s 22 league games. She was also 10th in the MIAC in assists and eighth in defensive rebounds.
Lippert steadily progressed during her freshman season and turned into one of the biggest forces around the basket in the MIAC. She led the league in blocks with 80 – 20 more than the next highest player. She also went on to set the school record for blocks in a single season in overall games as she came away with 102 rejections in the team’s 28 total games. Lippert finished her freshman year by averaging 9.9 points and 6.9 rebounds in conference play. She led the team in rebounding and was eighth in the MIAC in that category. Lippert was also 11th in field goal percentage, eighth in offensive rebounds and 10th in defensive rebounds.

NDSU's Abby Plucker Named to All-Summit League First Team
ELMHURST, Ill.--North Dakota State forward Abby Plucker was named to the All-Summit League women's first team Thursday, March 3, by a vote of the league's head coaches, sports information directors and media.
Plucker, a 5-foot-11 junior from Parker, S.D. (Parker H.S.), led The Summit League in rebounding (10.3 rpg) and three-point shooting (.488, 41-84) in league games. She was second in scoring (19.7 ppg) and free throw shooting (.855, 65-76), third in three-pointers made (2.3 avg.), fourth in minutes played (36 avg.) and sixth in field goal shooting (.525, 124-236).
A two-time Summit League Player of the Week, Plucker was named the league's January Female Athlete of the Month. She ranks 30th nationally in rebounding (10.1 rpg) and leads NDSU in scoring (16.2 ppg). Plucker has 11 "double-doubles" this season including 10 in league play and has led the Bison in rebounding in 24 of 28 games.
North Dakota State went 13-15 in the regular season and tied for sixth in The Summit League with a 9-9 record. Zelinsky and Zabel Named to NSIC All-Conference Teams
(Burnsville, Minn.)- The 2010-11 NSIC Women’s Basketball All-Conference Teams have been announced, as voted on by the league coaches. The awards consist of a first and a second all-conference team, an all-freshman team and an all-defensive team. The coaches also vote for the NSIC Player of the Year, NSIC Defensive Player of the Year, NSIC Freshman of the Year and NSIC Coach of the Year. Earning honors from the University of Minnesota, Crookston Women’s Basketball team were Jamie Zelinsky (G, 5-11, SR, Brooklyn Park, Minn.) who was named to the All-Conference First Team and Bri Zabel (F, 6-0, SR, Northfield, Minn.) who was named to the All-Conference Second Team.
Zelinsky started all 27 games and finished with a team-high 15.6 point/game. She made 159 field goals, 21 three-pointers and 83 free-throws. She was second on the team with 150 rebounds and 23 blocks and led the team with 67 assists. She became UMC’s All-Time leading scorer this season and finished her career with 1,724 total points. She is the daughter of Julie Walter of Brooklyn Park, MN and Jeff Zelinsky of Woodbury, MN. She is majoring in sport & recreation management with a minor in coaching.

NSIC Players of the Week
Junior forward, Angie Jetvig, of the Minnesota State University Moorhead Dragon women's basketball team has been named the Northern Sun Intercollegaite Conference Player of the Week. This was announced Monday by the league office.
Jetvig became the fourth Dragon all-time to hit the 1,000 point plateau in her junior season as she scored her 1,000th point on Saturday over the Upper Iowa Peacocks. She joins three other former juniors to reach 1,000 points and is the 19th Dragon women's basketball player to join the 1,000 point club.
She reached the historic mark in her 82nd game, while the current all-time points leader at MSUM, Kari Farstveet (1,624 points) reached the 1,000 point mark in her 72nd game as a Dragon. Jetvig continues to lead the league as she is averaging 19.0 points per game this season.
On the weekend, Jetvig went 17-for-28 from the field including 1-of-2 from long range, while hitting 4-of-5 attempts from the charity stripe. She grabbed 12 boards, had four blocks and three of each steals and assists. She led the field both Friday and Saturday nights as she tallied 20 over Winona State and 19 against the Peacocks. This is the second time this season Jetvig has been named NSIC Player of the Week (11/29/10).

Evan Forde was named the Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference Wrestler of the Week on Monday. Forde was the catalyst for the Dragons' upset of No. 10 ranked Upper Iowa on Thursday night by a final of 25-17. Forde knocked off No. 4 ranked Kyle Pedretti in the 133-pound matchup by a final of 3-1.
The Dragons were down by six heading into the matchup with only three matches remaining and needing a win to give them a shot of a comeback. Forde and Pedretti studied one another in a scoreless first period, with Pedretti gaining an escape in the second to take a 1-0 lead.
With the Dragons needing a come from behind win, it was Forde who came from behind to tie the match with an escape in the third to send it into sudden victory overtime. Forde stunned Pedretti, the regions current No. 1 wrestler, in overtime just 30 seconds into the period with a big takedown that earned him the 3-1 win, propelling the Dragons to the 25-17 win.
Forde will lead the Dragons into the NCAA Division-II Super III Regional wrestling tournament on Sunday with the opening round scheduled to begin at 10 a.m. on the Augustana College (S.D.) campus.

Sophomore Jessica Keesling of MInnesota Staet University Moorhead Dragon track and field team has been named the Northenr Sun Intercollegiate Conference Female Runner of the Week. This was announced Monday by the league office.
Keesling won the 60-meter hurdles in 9.03 seconds at the Snowshoe Open this past weekend at the University of Minnesota. She topped two NCAA DI athletes on her way to the top as she hit a pre-qualifying mark for the NCAA DII Championships.

UMC Women’s Basketball to Close Out Regular Season Home Games This Weekend
(Crookston, Minn.)- The University of Minnesota, Crookston Women’s Basketball team returns to Lysaker Gymnasium this Friday and Saturday to host Upper Iowa and Winona State in the Golden Eagle’s final two home games of the 2010-11 season. Game times are set for 6:05 p.m. on Friday and 4:05 p.m. on Saturday and will be shown on Midco Sports Net (Channel 27 in Crookston).
MINNESOTA, CROOKSTON – (11-11, 8-10 NSIC) The Golden Eagle Women's Basketball team hosted Bemidji State and Minnesota Duluth this weekend in NSIC play. UMC went 1-1 in the double-header and finished the weekend in 10th place in the NSIC. Minnesota, Crookston defeated BSU 84-63 on Friday but fell to UMD 65-78 on Saturday. It was a historic first half for the Golden Eagles against the Bulldogs as two team members each reached career milestones. Jamie Zelinsky (G, 5-11, Sr., Brooklyn Park, Minn.) set the all-time Golden Eagle Women’s Basketball scoring mark of 1,642 points previously held by Karna Plaine (2002-2006). Zelinsky broke the record with a good jumper with one second remaining in the first half. Bri Zabel (F, 6-0, Sr., Northfield, Minn.) scored her 1,000th career point in a Golden Eagle uniform with a basket at the 17:47 mark of the first half. Zabel has been with the Golden Eagles for three seasons after transferring from Florida Gulf Coast. Zelinsky led UMC offensively on the weekend averaging 17 points/game. She was 13-24 from the field and 6-8 from the free-throw line. She finished second on the team with 11 rebounds and four assists and tied a team-high with four steals. Zabel averaged 12.5 points/game and finished with four assists.
UPPER IOWA- (1-21, 1-17 NSIC) The Peacocks welcomed the Warriors of Winona State to Dorman Gym for their lone matchup of the week on Saturday. Winona State owned the first half thanks to their effort on the offensive boards, and second opportunities, but Upper Iowa outplayed their guests in the second half to give themselves an opportunity for the win in the closing minutes. UIU shot 70% in the second half, but fell in the end by an 84-77 count. Upper Iowa was led by Lana Otting’s 18 points, but she was joined by four other Peacocks in double figures. The group included Cassandra Deiters (14), Jen Herrick (11), Heidi McKean (10) and Jeri Jacobson (10). Jacobson had a game-high 8 rebounds, while Deiters pulled in 7. UIU also tallied 24 assists on the night including 7 by Herrick and McKean, 5 by Jacobson, and 4 by Otting.

UMC Women host Bemidji State & MN Duluth in NSIC
(Crookston, Minn.)- The University of Minnesota, Crookston Women’s Basketball team returns to Lysaker Gymnasium this Friday and Saturday to host Bemidji State University and Minnesota Duluth in a pivotal NSIC weekend. The Golden Eagles will square off with the Beavers on Friday at 6 p.m. and with the Bulldogs on Saturday at 4 p.m. UMC is currently tied for ninth place in the NSIC and one game out of eighth place which would qualify the team for the conference tournament.

She was 7-13 from the field and a perfect 7-7 from the free-throw line. She dished three assists and grabbed two steals. UMC Coaches Luncheon Friday, Feb 11
(Crookston, Minn.)- The UMC Teambackers will hold a Golden Eagle coaches luncheon on Friday, February 11 at the Crookston Eagles Club. Lunch will be served and coaches will give updates on their seasons to date, along with outlooks on their upcoming games. Selected student-athletes will speak about their season, upcoming games and opponents.
The Golden Eagles have two crucial home weekends coming up. UMC hosts Bemidji State and Minnesota Duluth on February 11 and 12. Game times are set for 6 p.m. and 4 p.m. On February 18 and 19 the team hosts Upper Iowa and Winona State. The games are set for 6 p.m. and 4 p.m. and will be carried on Midcontinent Cable.

Laura Taylor NAIA Div II WBB Player of the Week
Laura Taylor of Mayville State (N.D.) has been named the NAIA National Division II Women’s Basketball Player of the Week, the national office announced Tuesday. Taylor was selected based on her performances from Jan. 24 - 30 and was chosen out of a pool of conference /independent /unaffiliated groupings.
In the Comets’ 80-75 victory over Dakota State (S.D.) on Jan. 26, the 6-1 center poured in 24 points on 6-of-15 shooting and grabbed 18 boards. Eleven of her rebounds came on the offensive glass, leading to crucial second-chance points in Mayville State’s win. With only six active Comet players for the matchup against NCCAA’s Trinity Bible College (N.D.) on Jan. 29, Taylor stepped up big with 32 points, 24 rebounds, five steals, three blocks and two assists.
The sophomore from Maddock, N.D., finished the week averaging 28 points and 21 rebounds per game, shooting 50 percent from the floor and 76 percent from the free-throw line.
Taylor has positioned herself among the Dakota Athletic Conference’s best, ranking first in offensive rebounds per game with 3.6, third in rebounds per game with 6.8 and seventh in scoring with 13.2 points per game.

Due to last weekend’s games getting moved back two days, this weekend’s games have been move to Saturday and Sunday and will start at 2 p.m. on each day.
MINNESOTA, CROOKSTON – (5-6, 2-5 NSIC) The Golden Eagle Women’s Basketball team went 1-1 on the weekend. After defeating Southwest Minnesota State 67-60, UMC fell to Minnesota State 69-67. Jamie Zelinsky (G, 5-11, Sr, Brooklyn Park, Minn.) led the Golden Eagles averaging 16.5 points/game. She grabbed 17 rebounds good for second on the team with an 8.5 rebounds/game average. Bri Zabel (F, 6-0, Sr, Northfield, Minn.) followed Zelinsky with a 14.5 points/game average and was second on the team with six assists.
NORTHERN STATE- (7-5, 4-4 NSIC) #35 Mikayla Barondeau (F, 6-1, Jr. Frederick, SD) had a 12 point average on the weekend scoring 13 points in the Wolves’ 72-69 win over Upper Iowa on Monday and finishing with 11 in the team’s 65-56 loss to Winona State on Tuesday. Emily Becken hit a game-winning three as the buzzer sounded Monday to defeat the Peacocks. NSU will be in action again this weekend when they travel north to take on Minnesota Crookston on Saturday at 2 p.m. and MSU Moorhead at 2 p.m. on Sunday.

The sophomore point guard opened the New Year with 15 points in a tough 84-78 loss at Winona State. She followed with 10 points, five rebounds, two assists and two steals in just 18 minutes during a 78-46 rout of Upper Iowa. For the two games, Collins averaged 12.5 points, 4.0 assists and 5.0 rebounds while shooting 58.8 per cent from the field and 50 per cent on treys… McKenzie Foster (F, 5-10, R-FR, Big Timber, MT) was nearly perfect from the field, making 10-of-12 shots and averaging 13.0 points while playing just 18 minutes a game. Foster made 3-of-4 shots and scored nine points with two steals off the bench at Winona State. MSU-M event changes
MSU-Moorhead Basketball coaches, Chad Walthall and Karla Nelson will host Wings with Walthall and Coffee with Karla the second week of January as Moxie Coffee will host Coach Nelson at 9:30 a.m. (Jan. 11) and Buffalo Wild Wings will host Coach Walthall at 7 p.m. on Jan. 12.
Wings with Walthall was originally scheduled for Jan. 5 and has been moved due to scheduling changes within the NSIC.

MSUM vs UMC
DRAGON WOMEN v. UMC GOLDEN EAGLES
For the Dragons, this game is an opportunity to build on their current five-game win streak and possibly move to 3-0 in Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference play.
Leading the Golden Eagles is a solid starting five and are led by Jamie Zelinsky and Bri Zabel. Zelinsky leads the Golden Eagles in scoring with 17.5 points per game and Zabel ranks second with 15.7 points per game.
Bri Zabel is the older sister of Dragon freshman, Morgan Zabel. The Zabel siblings played together at Northfield High School (Minn.) for one year, but this game will be the first time the two have had to share the floor wearing different jerseys.
Head Coach Karla Nelson said, “UMC has such a balanced lineup and that's what makes them so tough.”
Four starters for Minnesota-Crookston are averaging double digits, while only two MSU Moorhead starters, Angie Jetvig (21.3 ppg) and Betsy Dickson (11.0 ppg), can claim the same.
Jetvig is coming off her career high matching 25 point performance against Dickinson State University (N.D.) last Tuesday, and Dickson tallied her career high 17 points against Minnesota Duluth.

Much like the women's contest, the men's game also has a pair of former teammates facing off. The Dragon's Tarell Clark and the Golden Eagle's Larry Brown played together their freshman year at Western Nebraska.
Brown is tied for second with 12.8 points per game for Minnesota-Crookston along with senior Adam Hendricks. Leading the Golden Eagles in both scoring (14.3 ppg) and rebounding (4.3 per game) is Utah Valley State transfer Eric Dearden.
All five starters for the Dragon are averaging double digits. Junior Dennis Williamson leads the Dragons with 14.7 ppg, a close second is junior Jake Driscoll with 14.0 and Clark is third with 12.7.
Both men's teams are 4-2 on the season, but the Dragons have a one game advantage in the NSIC standings after beating Bemidji State last Friday. The Golden Eagles are still unbeaten however at home and are still searching for their first NSIC victory.

Coffee with Karla - MSUM Women's BB Coach
During the 2010-11 season, Head Coach Karla Nelson will host Coffee with Karla at Moxie Java in Moorhead.
Coffee with Karla is a social hour over coffee where fans and supporters are welcome to come chat, ask questions and listen to Coach Nelson’s plans for the women’s basketball program. The dates for this season’s Coffee with Karla are Dec. 8, Jan. 11 and Feb. 8 (and a date in March TBD). Each time will begin at 9:30 a.m. and will be held at Moxie Java in Moorhead, Minn. (115 4th St. S). Limited refreshments will be available.
The Dragons are currently 4-1 on the year and 2-0 in the NSIC. They will host Dickinson State (N.D.) on Tuesday, Dec. 7 at 6 p.m. before returning to conference play on Saturday in Crookston. The game at UMC will begin at 2 p.m.

Jetvig Earns NSIC Player of the Week Honors
ST. PAUL, Minn. - Minnesota State University Moorhead junior forward Angie Jetvig was named Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference Player of the Week, announced Monday by the league office.
Jetvig posted career highs in both points (25) and rebounds (16) as she led the Dragons to 98-72 victory over Mayville State. Jetvig went four of six from three point range and eleven of twelve from the free throw line in the game. Her route to career highs began with a first half double-double with eighteen points and ten rebounds. Jetvig also posted one blocked shot. This is Jetvig's second double-double of the season, but vastly improved on her 15 points and 10 rebounds against Southern Indiana and 22 points and 8 rebounds in the win over Queens at the Grand Canyon/Crowne Plaza Tournament in Phoenix, A.Z.
The Dragons will begin NSIC play on Dec. 3 at Bemidji State University and their next home contest is Dec. 7 against the Blue Hawks from Dickinson State (N.D.) at 6 p.m. in Nemzek Fieldhouse.

UMC Women's Basketball schedule
(Crookston, Minn.)- The University of Minnesota, Crookston Women’s
Basketball team travels to warmer climates this week as they play Barry
University in Miami, Fla. The non-conference game with the Buccaneers is
scheduled for Wednesday, November 24 at 5:30 p.m.
Barry University is 2-2 on the season. The Buccaneers are led by Shanna
Suttington who is averaging 13 points/game through the first four games.
She also leads the team in assists and steals. Nadia Tijani leads the
team in boards with 26 and in turnovers with 10.
The Golden Eagles open the NSIC season on Friday, December 3 when the
team travels to Duluth to play the Bulldogs. Tip-off is scheduled for
6:00 p.m.
