FARGO,
N.D.—North Dakota State University head wrestling coach Roger Kish
announced Matt Nagel has joined the Bison staff as an assistant coach.
Nagel has spent the past eight years at Concordia College (Minn.),
including the last three as head coach.
“We
are excited to have Matt join the Bison wrestling program. He is an
outstanding technician and mentor. Not only does Matt bring a great deal
of experience and enthusiasm, but is well-respected all over the
country,” said Kish, who enters his sixth season as head coach at North
Dakota State and eighth year overall.
Nagel
was a two-time NCAA Division III West Region Coach of the Year at
Concordia in 2014 and 2016. While keeping Concordia among the top 25
programs nationally, he produced a pair of individual NCAA Division III
champions as well as 13 NCAA All-Americans. Concordia also had 18
student-athletes earn National Wrestling Coaches Association (NWCA)
All-Academic honors.
“I
am very excited to join coach (Roger) Kish and coach (Jarrod) Garnett. I
look forward to the opportunity to coach in the Big 12, and help these
young men win conference championships. My family and I are excited to
be a part of the Bison family,” said Nagel.
Nagel
was a three-time NCAA Division I qualifier for the successful
University of Minnesota program and earned All-America honors in 2005.
He won 100 matches for the Gophers during his career. He graduated from
Minnesota with a bachelor’s degree in kinesiology in 2006 and master’s
degree in education in 2008.
A
native of Frazee, Minn., Nagel was a five-time Minnesota State High
School champion for the Hornets and also claimed three Asics Junior
Greco championships, a FILA Junior Greco title and one USA Wrestling
Cadet championships. Nagel was inducted into the Minnesota High School
Wrestling Hall of Fame in 2014.
