MINNEAPOLIS/ST. PAUL –
The WNBA tonight announced Lynx forward Maya Moore was voted in by fans
to the starting lineup for the 2014 Western Conference All-Star team.
Moore topped all vote-getters in 2014 WNBA All-Star Balloting presented
by Boost Mobile with 28,389 votes. This year’s game will mark the third
career All-Star start for Moore. This is the third time the Lynx have
had a player voted into the starting lineup.
As
a result of being the 2014 Western Conference Champions, head coach
Cheryl Reeve will coach the Western Conference, joined on the bench by
assistant coaches Jim Petersen and Shelley Patterson. Head athletic
trainer Chuck Barta will handle training duties.
In
her fourth year out of the University of Connecticut, Moore is
averaging a league-best 22.8 points per game. She’s posted 12 20+ point
games, including five double-doubles this season. Moore became the first
WNBA player ever to score 30+ points in four consecutive games as she
helped Minnesota go 6-0 in May. She collected 135 points from May 16-24,
marking the most prolific four-game scoring stretch in WNBA history.
Her best game this season came in Tulsa on May 23 when she scored a
career-high 38 points and grabbed a season-high 13 rebounds.
