CROOKSTON, Minn.-
The University of Minnesota Crookston men’s basketball program announced
the addition of Brian Enriquez (G, 6-3 195, Lakewood, Calif.) to a
National Letter of Intent. Enriquez becomes the fourth player to sign
with the Golden Eagles for next season. He joins A.J. Walton (G, 6-4
190, Hesperia, Calif.), Jim Warmack (F/C, 6-7 220, East Grand Forks,
Minn.) and Gable Smith (G/F, 6-7 170, Lodi, Wis.) who all previously
signed with UMC.
“Brian is a combo guard that can step out and
shoot, find the open man, or take it to the rim himself,” said UMC Head
Men’s Basketball Coach Dan Weisse. “Brian is a guy that has a work ethic
second to none. He wants to get better and in turn he makes his
teammates better. We want players in our program that are hungry to get
better and that is what he brings We are excited that Brian is a Golden
Eagle.”
Enriquez played seven games for St. John Bosco last
season, averaging 3.4 points per game, after transferring there for his
senior season. He transferred mid-year for personal reasons to La Mirada
H.S., where he did not play basketball. Enriquez previously played for
Sultana H.S. where he averaged 20.5 points, five assists and 2.5
rebounds as a junior. His best game as a junior came with 44 points on
15-of-30 shooting from the field against Oak Hills H.S. Enriquez was
7-of-11 from beyond the arc in the game. In addition, Enriquez tallied
34 points on 14-of-22 shooting and was 4-of-6 from three-point range
against Yucca Valley H.S. Against California Military Institute,
Enriquez had 11 assists and four steals. As a sophomore for Sultana
H.S., Enriquez averaged 12 points, four assists and three rebounds per
game. He was an All-League selection during three of his high school
seasons.
He is the son of Buck and Edith Enriquez. Enriquez was born Oct. 15, 1995. He plans to major in health science.
“I’m
kind of speechless,” Enriquez said. “I am really excited for the
opportunity to play basketball at UMC. I am ready for the next chapter
of my life. The biggest thing I think I bring to the program is a floor
general at the point guard spot. I try to be a leader on the floor.”
The
Golden Eagles will have a large roster with 13 returnees and four
newcomers for the 2014-15 season. Minnesota Crookston will be led by a
large senior class which includes seven players with Tim Lubke (G, St.
Paul, Minn.), Tomas Parker (F/C, Pequot Lakes, Minn.), Kevin Larson (G,
New Ulm, Minn.), Tyler West, Jr. (G/F, Portland, Ore.), Lucas Reller (G,
Lead, S.D.), Giorgi Koguashvili (G, Tbilisi, Republic of Georgia) and
Sam Howell (G, Seattle, Wash.). The 2014-15 season will be the first for
new Head Coach Dan Weisse, who comes over after three years as an
