ROCHESTER, Mich. - Six North Dakota State baseball players were named to the All-Summit League teams voted on by the league's six head coaches and announced Wednesday, May 22, at the league championship banquet.
Second baseman Wes Satzinger, outfielders Tim Colwell and Kyle Kleinendorst, and utility player Jon Hechtner were voted to the all-league first team. Third baseman John Skrbec and starting pitcher John Straka were voted to the second team.
Colwell, Satzinger and Straka were named All-Summit League for the second straight year. It was Straka's third all-league award including a second team spot as a freshman in 2009.
Satzinger, a junior from Andover, Minn., hit .304 with nine doubles and a team-high five home runs and 30 RBIs. He ranks fourth overall in The Summit League with a .496 slugging percentage and is second in homers.
Colwell, a junior from Shoreview, Minn., hit .310 with a team-high 11 doubles while leading all league players in overall hits (62), runs scored (38) and is second in the league with four triples.
Kleinendorst, a junior from Grand Rapids, Minn., was a career .219 hitter his first two seasons before leading NDSU with a .333 batting average and 11 doubles. He is fourth in the league in hitting, on-base percentage (.415) and slugging (.464).
Hechtner, a freshman from Omaha, Neb., hit .283 with eight doubles and 21 RBIs and was second on the team with 31 runs scored. He made 28 starts in the infield, six in the outfield and eight as designated hitter.
Skrbec, a sophomore from Grand Rapids, Minn., is hitting .254 with seven doubles, 21 RBIs and is fourth in the league overall with a team-high 25 walks. He hit a pair of game-winning home runs against South Dakota State and Oakland in the final week of league play.
Straka, a senior from Chaska, Minn., is one of three seven-game winners in the league with a 7-2 record, is second in the league with a 1.86 ERA and led the league in complete games (5), shutouts (2), innings (97.0) and strikeouts (84).
No. 3 seed North Dakota State (24-25, 11-13) plays No. 2 seed tournament host Oakland (20-33, 15-13) in the opening round of the Summit League championship at 3 p.m. EDT on Thursday, May 23, at the OU Baseball Field.
