UND's Boeser recognized by NCHC for 6-point opening weekend



GRAND FORKS, N.D. – University of North Dakota sophomore forward Brock Boeser has been named National Collegiate Hockey Conference (NCHC) Offensive Player of the Week for his performance in UND’s non-conference sweep of Canisius last weekend in Grand Forks.

Boeser, a native of Burnsville, Minn., led all NCHC players in points (6), assists (5) and plus/minus (+5) in the two-game series. He had a goal and three assists with a plus-4 rating in the series opener and dished out two more assists in the finale, including a set-up of Tucker Poolman’s game-winning goal.

An All-American as a freshman last season, Boeser was the 2015-16 NCHC Rookie of the Year and was named NCHC Freshman of the Week four times and Offensive Player of the Week once. He led the conference in both points (60) and goals (27).

Minnesota Duluth sophomore Neal Pionk was named NCHC Defenseman of the Week, Western Michigan goalie Ben Blacker was the Freshman of the Week and UMD redshirt freshman Nick Deery was the goaltender of the week.

The Fighting Hawks return to action on Saturday, Oct. 15 against Rensselaer in the U.S. Hockey Hall of Fame Game. The puck drops at 7:07 p.m. Central.
