Lynx Maya Moore Named Western Conference Player of the Month

MINNEAPOLIS/ST. PAUL – The WNBA today named Minnesota Lynx forward Maya Moore its Western Conference Player of the Month presented by Samsung for the month of July. This is the first Western Conference Player of the Month presented by Samsung award for Moore this season and the sixth of her career, having also been named twice in 2013 and three times in 2014 . The award marks the ninth time a Lynx player has been named Player of the Month, with Lindsay Whalen (August 2011), Seimone Augustus (July 2011) and Rebekkah Brunson (June 2011) also having previously received the award. After being named Player of the Week on August 3, Moore has now received three Player of the Week awards this season. Moore has now captured six of the last eight Western Conference Player of the Month presented by Samsung awards dating to her first such honor in August 2013.
Moore averaged 25.8 ppg, 8.8 rpg and 4.1 apg in nine games in July, shooting 41.9% from beyond the arc while leading the league in three-pointers made with 26. Her month started off with a 23-point performance in a win over Seattle on July 3, as well as a 29-point performance in Chicago on July 10 – 25 of those points coming in the second half of the game. Moore was named Most Valuable Player of the 2015 WNBA All-Star Game on July 25 after pouring in an All-Star Game-record 30 points with six rebounds and five assists in the West's 117-112 victory. Moore has scored 20+ points in each of her past 11 contests, tying Cynthia Cooper for the second-longest such streak in WNBA history.
Highlights from Moore’s month include:
  • July 17 vs. Chicago: Tallied a then-season-high 29 points, adding seven rebounds, four assists, three steals and a season-high three blocks. Put in 15 points in the 3rd quarter, helping Minnesota overcome a 10-point, first-half deficit.
