Summit League Golf Preseason Poll

ELMHURST, Ill. – Last year’s Summit League women’s golf champion, North Dakota State, was selected to place second this season, according to a preseason poll of the league's nine head coaches released Wednesday, Feb. 5.

The Denver women’s golf team was selected as the favorite to win the 2014 Summit League Golf Championship, receiving seven of the eight first place votes.

NDSU received one first place vote and 43 points in the preseason poll.

South Dakota was selected third, Western Illinois fourth and Omaha fifth. South Dakota was picked to finish sixth, while Fort Wayne and IUPUI were in a tie for seventh.

The Bison have two golfers ranked in the Top 10 of The Summit League individual scoring averages, and four combined in the Top 20.

Junior Sarah Storandt leads the Bison with a 76.0 this season, which currently has her sixth in The Summit League. Senior Abby Weller sits in 10th in The Summit League with a 78.1 average. Sophomores Cassie Wurm and Hailey Boner are ranked 12th and 15th, respectively. Wurm is averaging a 78.8 and Boner is averaging 79.3.

The Bison will play four spring tournaments before The Summit League championship April 21-23 at Sky Creek Ranch Golf Club in Keller, Texas.  NDSU opens at the Grand Canyon Invitational on Monday Feb. 24, and Tuesday, Feb. 25, in Phoenix, Ariz.

ELMHURST, Ill. - The North Dakota State men's golf team was picked to finish fourth in The Summit League according to a preseason poll of the league's nine head coaches released Wednesday, Feb. 5.


The Denver men's golf team was selected as the favorite to win the 2014 Summit League Golf Championship, receiving seven of the eight first place votes.


IUPUI received the final first-place vote and was picked second.  Last season's tournament runner-up, South Dakota, placed third in the poll.


NDSU and South Dakota State were picked and fourth and fifth, respectively. Omaha, Western Illinois and Fort Wayne rounded out the poll in order.


The Bison are led by Second Team All-Summit and All-Tournament team selection Bill Carlson, who ranked fourth in the league with 72.6 stroke average heading into the spring. NDSU has two other golfers ranked in the Top 20 individually. Junior Trent Olson has the league's 12th best scoring average at 74.3 and sophomore Connor Holland is 19th with a 75.5 average.


NDSU placed fifth at last year's Summit League championship by shooting a 924. Kansas City won with an 880, 19 strokes ahead of runner-up South Dakota.
