NDSU Wrestlers Recognized by WWC for Academic Success

Ten North Dakota State wrestlers have been recognized by the Western Wrestling Conference for their academic success during the 2012-13 season, the league announced Wednesday. Four Bison were named to the WWC All-Academic Team, while six more claimed WWC Coaches’ Honor Roll status.

Trent Sprenkle, Evan Knutson, Steven Monk and John Gusewelle earned spots on the WWC All-Academic Team by securing a minimum 3.20 cumulative grade point average, being a starter or key reserve, and holding sophomore or higher academic standing.

NDSU matched Utah Valley and Wyoming to lead all conference squads with four student-athletes on the All-Academic Team.

Mark Erickson, Paul Johnson, Kallen Kleinschmidt, Caleb Meide, Mac Stoll and Hunter Weber claimed spots on the WWC Coaches’ Honor Roll with cumulative grade point averages above 3.0.

NDSU was also recognized by the National Wrestling Coaches Association (NWCA) in May for having the 11th-best team GPA in the nation at 3.129, marking the second straight year that the Bison came in at No. 11 nationally. Sprenkle and Knutson were named to the NWCA All-Academic Team as well.
