North Star Football Conference Players of the Week

The North Star Football Conference has announced the Players of the Week for the East and West Divisions.

For the East Division, Zach Karst (Walker-Hakcensack-Akeley) earned Offensive Player of the Week recognition, Aaron O’Connell (Lake of the Woods) garnerd the Defensive Player of the Week award and Kris Skersick (Bagley) was named Special Teams Player of the Week.

The East Division includes: Bagley, Blackduck, CassLake-Bena, Lake of the Woods, Pillager, Pine River-Backus and Walker-Hackensack-Akeley/Laporte.

Zach Karst led the Wolves with 19 carries for 164 yards and 1 touchdown in a defensive battle against Lake of the Woods. LOW won the game by a score of 14-7.

Aaron O’Connell anchored the defensive effort for Lake of the Woods. He had 6 solo tackles, 5 assisted tackles and 1 interception during their win over the Wolves.

Kris Skersick started the scoring for the Flyers when he ran the opening kickoff back for a touchdown against Fosston. The Flyers won their Homecoming game 26-12.

Other outstanding performances for the East Division teams included: Nick Ruhl (Pillager), Victor Dahl (Lake of the Woods), Nick Neeland (Bagley), Christopher Zimmer (Walker-Hackensack-Akeley/Laporte), and Adam Obermiller (Pillager).

West Division Player of the Week honorees include: Jake Pavek (Mahnomen) as Offensive Player of the Week and Zach Riopelle (Warren-Alvarado-Oslo) earned Defensive Player of the Week.

West Division schools include: Fertile-Beltrami, Fosston, Frazee, Lake Park-Audubon, Mahnomen, Red Lake County, and Warren-Alvarado- Oslo.

Jake Pavek rushed the ball 12 times for 172 yards and 4 touchdowns. He also was 2 of 4 passing for 69 yards as Mahnomen defeated Lake Park-Audubon 52-7.

Zach Riopelle had 10 solo tackles, which included 3 tackles for a loss of yardage. He also added 2 assisted tackles and a blocked punt against Frazee. The Ponies had an excited last second win over the Hornets by a score of 27-23.

Additional outstanding efforts for the West Division were turned in by Cody Piper (Frazee) and Rick Brandt (Frazee).
