Lynx' Fowles Named WNBA Western Conference POTW



MINNEAPOLIS/ST. PAUL – The WNBA today named Minnesota Lynx center Sylvia Fowles the Western Conference Player of the Week for games played July 17 through July 23. The Player of the Week award is Fowles’ 11th of her career and league-leading fourth this season.

Minnesota went 1-0 during the week, remaining atop the WNBA standings with a record of 16-2 overall and increasing its lead to three games over Los Angeles (14-6).

The 10-year pro from Louisiana State notched her 10th double-double of 2017 and the 117th of her WNBA career (25th since arriving in Minnesota) Wednesday against Dallas, finishing with a game-high 24 points on 10-of-11 shooting and 12 rebounds as the Lynx won 100-74. In the three games vs. the Wings this year, she averaged 27.0 ppg and 11.3 rpg in 28.3 mpg while shooting 71.1% (32-for-45) from the floor. Fowles has now registered eight 20+ point/10+ rebound games in 2017, her best single-season haul since 2012 and boosting her career total to 48.

Fowles ranks second in FG accuracy (67.1%), fourth in scoring (20.1 ppg), third in rebounding (9.8 rpg), fourth in blocks (1.78 bpg) and 10th in steals (1.44 spg). In the Verizon WNBA All-Star 2017 on Saturday, she finished with eight points on 4-of-5 shooting and five rebounds as the West outlasted the East 130-121.
New York’s Tina Charles was named Eastern Conference Player of the Week.

The Lynx play next on Tuesday, July 25 against the New York Liberty at Xcel Energy Center. Tip-off is set for 7:00 p.m. CT and the game can be seen on ESPN2 and heard on BOB 106.1 FM.
