MINNEAPOLIS/ST.
PAUL – The WNBA today named
Minnesota Lynx head coach Cheryl Reeve its inaugural WNBA Coach of the Month.
The reigning WNBA Coach of the Year guided the Lynx to a league-best 6-0 record
for a second straight season.
Minnesota’s
six wins extended the franchise’s streak to 23 straight wins in the month of
May dating back to 2012 (5-0 in 2012, 6-0 in 2014, 6-0 in 2016), matching the
Los Angeles Sparks (July, 2000-02) for the all-time record of consecutive wins
in a month across seasons. During the six-game winning streak, the Lynx
extended their franchise-best 14 straight wins vs. San Antonio at home.
Sunday’s 80-66 victory over San Antonio was Minnesota's 13th in a row at home
overall, a run that began with the 91-68 triumph over San Antonio last July 2
at Target Center. It's the 2nd-longest home winning streak ever for the Lynx,
surpassed only by an 18-game spree from July 12, 2012 to Aug. 4, 2013.
Under
Reeve’s tutelage, the Lynx boasts two players (Fowles, Moore) in the top-20
scoring, three in the top-15 rebounding (Fowles, Moore, Brunson) and four in
the top-20 assists (Whalen, Moore, Augustus, Montgomery).
The
Lynx play next tomorrow, June 3 against the Seattle Storm at Key Arena. Tip-off
is scheduled for 8:00 p.m. CT and the game can be seen on WNBA League Pass and
heard on BOB 106.1 FM.
