GRAND
FORKS, N.D. – University of North Dakota junior Zane
McIntyre has been named the National Collegiate Hockey Conference (NCHC)
Goaltender of the Week for his performance in UND’s series with 11th-ranked
Omaha last weekend.
McIntyre allowed just four goals and stopped 60 of 64 shots
in 125 minutes of hockey as UND took four of six conference points from the
Mavericks. The Thief River Falls, Minn., native was named the game’s No. 1 star
in UND’s 3-2 win on Saturday after he stopped a season-high 32 shots. Fourteen
of those saves came in a third period in which UND was outshot 15-3 while
protecting the lead. One night earlier, McIntyre stopped 28 of 30 shots in a
2-2 overtime tie.
For the weekend, McIntyre led all NCHC goalies with a 1.92
goals against average and a .938 save percentage while backing a UND
penalty-killing effort that held the Mavericks scoreless in seven power-play
opportunities.
It is the seventh weekly conference honor of McIntyre’s
career. He was named NCHC Goaltender of the Week three times last season, and
was also honored by the WCHA three times as a freshman in 2012-13, garnering
Defensive Player of the Week honors twice and Rookie of the Week recognition
once.
McIntyre has started all 15 of UND’s games this season,
going 10-3-2 with a 2.02 goals against average and .928 save percentage. His 10
victories are tied for the conference lead and he also leads the NCHC in
appearances (15), starts (15), minutes played (889:42) and saves (388).
Western Michigan claimed the league’s other three weekly
awards. Senior forward Justin Kovacs was the NCHC Offensive Player of the Week,
junior Kenney Morrison was the NCHC Defenseman of the Week and freshman forward
Frederik Tiffels was named NCHC Rookie of the Week.
