FARGO, N.D. – North Dakota State University head
women’s track & field coach Ryun Godfrey announced Wednesday, Feb.
5, that seven student-athletes have signed National Letters of Intent
and another has signed an institutional letter of
intent to continue their educations at NDSU and compete for the Bison.
Jaelin Beachy (Staples, Minn.), Gabby Grommesh
(Casselton, N.D.), Amanda Levin (West Fargo, N.D.), Sierra Link
(Bismarck, N.D.), Alyssa Olin (Mott, N.D.), Aimee Rice-Strand (Osceola,
Wis.), Emma Schalow (Fargo, N.D.) and Alexis Woods (Parshall,
N.D.) will join the six-time defending Summit League champions in the
fall of 2014.
Beachy (Staples-Motley HS) has won the last two
Minnesota Class A state championships in the 100m hurdles and was
runner-up in the 300m hurdles both years. She qualified for the state
meet in the long jump in her freshman and sophomore
seasons, as well as taking fourth in the 300m hurdles as a freshman.
Grommesh (Central Cass HS) placed second in the
100m and third in the 200m in North Dakota Class B as a junior in 2013.
She has run on five consecutive state-qualifying 4x100m relays,
including a state championship as a sophomore in 2012.
Grommesh ran on Central Cass 4x200m relays that finished third and
fourth in 2011 and 2012, respectively.
Levin (West Fargo HS) swept the North Dakota Class A
state titles in the sprints as a junior in 2013, winning at 100m, 200m
and 400m. As a sophomore, she earned runner-up honors in all three
events, and she ran on West Fargo 4x200m relay
teams that finished second in each of the last two years. Levin ranks
among the top 10 performers in North Dakota high school history with her
100m time of 12.05 seconds and her 200m time of 25.14.
Link (Bismarck Century HS) was the North Dakota
Class A runner-up in the 800m as a junior, running 2:18.83 at the state
meet. She placed fifth in the 800m as a sophomore and was seventh in the
400m as a freshman. Link has run on six state-qualifying
relay teams in her career, including three that took runner-up honors.
Olin (Mott-Regent HS) has been a North Dakota Class
B state meet qualifier in three different events over the past two
seasons. She earned a runner-up finish in the javelin as a junior in
2013 after taking ninth as a sophomore. Olin ran
on Mott-Regent 4x200m state-qualifying relays in each of the last three
years, as well as qualifying for state in the long jump.
Rice-Strand (Osceola HS) won a Wisconsin Division 2
state championship in the 200m as a junior in 2013 after winning her
first state title as a member of the Osceola 4x100m relay in 2012. She
owns five state runner-up honors, including
a pair in the 100m over the last two seasons, and is a three-time
placer in the 200m.
Schalow (Fargo South HS) is a two-time North Dakota
Class A placewinner in the long jump, taking fourth as a sophomore in
2012 and second as a junior in 2013. She earned a pair of fifth-place
finishes at the state meet on the 4x200m relay
in 2012 and the 4x100m relay in 2013, as well as qualifying both years
in the pole vault.
Woods (Parshall HS) is a three-time North Dakota
Class B state champion in the 400m dash, winning the title as a
freshman, sophomore and junior after finishing second as both a seventh-
and eighth-grader. She is also a two-time placewinner
in the 100m and 200m dashes. As a freshman, she won the 400m state
title with a time of 57.22 seconds.
Bison Men’s Track & Field Signs Seven
FARGO, N.D. – North Dakota State head men’s track
& field and cross country coach Don Larson announced Wednesday, Feb.
5, that seven student-athletes have signed National Letters of Intent
to continue their education at NDSU and compete
for the Bison.
Nigel Hageness, a sprinter from Rugby, N.D.; Landon
Jochim, a sprinter from Bismarck, N.D.; Matt Moberg, a jumper from West
Fargo, N.D.; Payton Otterdahl, a thrower from Rosemount, Minn.; Camron
Roehl, a distance runner from Grand Forks,
N.D.; Branden Scheel, a distance runner from Fargo, N.D.; and Brennan
Witt, a mid-distance runner from Custer, S.D., are the first seven
athletes to sign with the Bison this year. All will join the NDSU men’s
track & field team in the fall of 2014.
Hageness (Rugby HS) won North Dakota Class B state
titles in the 100m, 200m and 4x100m relay as a sophomore in 2012,
helping Rugby HS to a second-place team finish. He was the runner-up in
the 100m as a junior in 2013.
Jochim (Bismarck Century HS) was the North Dakota
Class A runner-up in the 400m as a junior in 2013. He is a two-time
state champion in the 4x400m relay for Bismarck Century HS.
Moberg (Park Christian HS) was the Minnesota Class A
state runner-up in the triple jump as a junior in 2013, as well as
placing eighth in the long jump in each of the past two seasons. He also
competed in football and plays basketball for
Park Christian.
Otterdahl (Rosemount HS) placed second in the shot
put and third in the discus at the Minnesota Class AA state
championships as a junior in 2013, as well as competing in football and
wrestling in his high school career.
Roehl (Grand Forks Central HS) qualified for the
North Dakota Class A state track meet in the 800m, 1600m, 3200m and
4x800m relay as a junior in 2013. As a sophomore, he was also a state
qualifier in the 1600m, 3200m and a pair of relays.
He placed fourth at the state cross country meet as a senior in 2013
while playing soccer in the same season.
Scheel (Fargo Davies HS) is an all-state performer
in cross country and track. He is a two-time Eastern Dakota Conference
(EDC) champion in cross country and placed third at the 2013 state cross
country meet as a senior. Scheel has qualified
for the North Dakota state track meet in the 1600m and 3200m in each of
the last two years, placing fourth in the 3200m as a sophomore in 2012.
Witt (Custer HS) has won three straight South
Dakota Class A state titles in the 800m. He captured state championships
in the 800m and 1600m and anchored his school to a title in the 1600m
medley relay as a junior in 2013. His performances
helped Custer HS cruise to the Class A team championship.
