MINNEAPOLIS/ST.
PAUL – The Minnesota Lynx
today announced the team has signed guard Jacki Gemelos. Per team policy, terms
of the deal were not disclosed.
Gemelos, 25, was
originally selected by the Lynx in the 3rd round (31st overall) of the 2012 WNBA
Draft. A 6-0 guard out of the University of Southern California, Gemelos
averaged 11.0 points and 7.3 rebounds in nine games as a senior in 2011-12
before suffering a season-ending knee injury, resulting in her fifth ACL
reconstruction in six years.
Her most successful
collegiate season was 2010-11, when Gemelos appeared in all 37 games (28
starts), averaging 12.4 points, 4.6 rebounds and 2.7 assists in 30.6 minutes per
game. Gemelos proved to be an elite three-point shooter, converting on 52-of-123
(.423) attempts from beyond the arc, leading the Pac-10 in three-point
percentage. She received an All-Pac-10 Honorable Mention for her play on the
floor, while her 3.5 GPA earned her Pac-10 All-Academic First Team
honors.
Prior to attending
USC, Gemelos had a stellar high school career, averaging 39.2 points, 8.9
assists, 6.5 rebounds and 2.7 steals per game as a senior at St. Mary’s High.
She was named a McDonald’s All-American, WBCA All-American and Miss Basketball
of California, including the 2006 National Player of the Year by MaxPreps and
Scout.com. In 2011, Gemelos won a gold medal with the USA Women’s World
University Games team, appearing in all six games and averaging 4.8 points, 2.5
