The North Dakota State University women’s cross country team has been picked to repeat as champions of The Summit League, according to the preseason poll of league head coaches released Thursday.
The Bison received eight of the nine possible first-place votes and totaled 64 points in the poll. South Dakota State came in second with 53 points.
The Bison return two All-Summit League honorees in juniors Heidi Peterson and Maddie McClellan. NDSU captured its first-ever Summit League title in 2011, with head coach Ryun Godfrey earning Coach of the Year honors and freshman Abbi Aspengren taking the league’s top newcomer award.
“We are looking forward to the 2012 cross country season with four of our top five intact from last year,” said Godfrey. “They had a good summer of training and are anxious to begin competing.”
NDSU will host the Bison Invitational on Fri., Aug. 31, to open the 2012 cross country season.
