North Dakota State guard Mike Felt was named Summit League men's basketball Player of the Week by the league office on Monday, Jan. 10.
Felt, a freshman from Redwood Falls, Minn., shot 11-for-17 from the 3-point line and 10-for-10 at the free-throw line in a pair of home wins last weekend over Oral Roberts and Centenary.
Felt scored a career-high 22 points in Thursday's 80-74 win over Oral Roberts. He was 4-for-6 from the arc and made eight straight free throws in the final 65 seconds to seal the win.
Felt was 7-for-11 from the 3-point line and scored a game-high 21 points in Saturday's 76-60 win over Centenary. He tied the NDSU single-game record for most 3's made in a game held by five other players.
Felt tied the NDSU single-game record for free-throw percentage going 10-for-10 against ORU. He scored 16 points in the second half, including a personal 8-0 run midway through after the Bison went behind 52-51.
It was the first career award for Felt, who entered the week averaging 3.5 points per game and 9-for-20 from the 3-point line.
North Dakota State snapped a three-game losing streak and extended its home court winning streak to seven games dating back to last season.
The Bison are scheduled to play at IUPUI on Thursday, Jan. 13, and Western Illinois on Saturday, Jan. 15, before returning home for four straight Summit League games to close out the month.

The Bemidji State University men's ice hockey team looks to continue

Huntsville in the Beavers' final nonconference series of the season.

Dragons Open National Duals Against No. 1 Mavericks
The Dragons wrestling team leaves the confines of Minnesota State University Moorhead for the NWCA/Cliff Keen National Duals in Cedar Falls, Iowa. The Dragons drew the No. 1 ranked Nebraska-Omaha Mavericks to begin the tournament on Saturday.
The Dragons are coming off their first win over Jamestown College (N.D.). The Dragons routed the Jimmies 35-3.

Bakala named WCHA Defensive Player of the Week
Madison, Wis. -- Western Collegiate Hockey Conference (WCHA) announced
today that Bemidji State University goaltender Dan Bakala (Jr., Calgary,
Alberta) has been selected WCHA Defensive Player of the Week after
leading the Beavers to the Mariucci Classic championship, Dec. 31 and
Jan. 1, with victories over Ferris State University and then-No. 14
Union College.
Bakala led the Beavers to the holiday tournament title with a pair of
wins. In 119:42 between the pipes, the junior recorded a 1.50 goals
against average, while turning away 65 of 68 shots for a .965 save
percentage. In addition, he backstopped a BSU penalty-kill unit that
conceded just one power-play goal in six opponent opportunities.
In the classic-opener, Bakala recorded 35 saves, including 17 in the
third period alone to hold off a late charge by Ferris State and
preserve the 3-2 victory. Saturday versus Union, the junior held the
nation’s fourth-ranked scoring offense and power-play unit ranked No.
1 in the country scoring on 34 percent of it chances this season, to
just one goal improving his record at 6-6-0 on the season in the
process.
The goaltender of record in 12 of the Beavers’ 18 games this season,
Bakala is 6-6-0 with a 2.31 GAA and .918 save percentage. He has won

Former Bemidji State football player Trent Baalke named GM of 49ers Baalke elevated to General Manager after 14 years with the organization
BEMIDJI, Minn. -- The National Football League’s (NFL) San Francisco 49ers announced Tuesday evening that Bemidji State University graduate
Trent Baalke has been named the organization’s General Manager.
A 1986 graduate of Bemidji State University, Baalke attended BSU from 1982-86 and played a variety of positions for the Beaver football team
during that time. He piled up 67 solo tackles and assisted on 102 stops for a career total of 169 tackles. The two-time All-Northern Intercollegiate Conference (NIC) selection also accounted for 11 pass deflections, seven interceptions two forced fumbles and collected four fumble recoveries.
Under Head Coach John Peterson, the Rosendale, Wis. native and the Beavers were 21-20-1 and finished as high as third in the NIC (1984 and
1985).
Baalke, 46, enters his seventh season with the 49ers and 14th in the National Football League. Baalke most recently served as the 49ers’
Vice President of Player Personnel, overseeing all aspects of player
personnel.
Over the last nine months, Baalke was responsible for all player acquisitions. His first order of business was orchestrating a trade with
the Miami Dolphins for wide receiver Ted Ginn Jr. He then commanded the 49ers draft process for the first time. All eight of the 49ers 2010
selections made the active roster, including first rounders Anthony Davis Mike Iupati, who each started every game on the offensive line last season. Baalke also played a role in extending the contracts of Pro Bowlers linebacker Patrick Willis and tight end Vernon Davis and signing veteran running back Brian Westbrook.
Prior to his promotion to Vice President of Player Personnel, Baalke was the 49ers’ Director of Player Personnel (2008-09), where he oversaw both the college and pro personnel departments. He first joined the franchise in 2005 as the team’s Western Region Scout, a position he held until 2007.
Baalke also spent four years on the Washington Redskins’™ scouting staff, serving as the College Scouting Coordinator in his final season.
From 2001 to 2003, he served as Washington’s National Scout.
Before joining the Redskins, Baalke spent three seasons (1998-2000) as a scout with the New York Jets.
From 1990 to 1995, Baalke held the position of defensive line/strength and conditioning coach at South Dakota State University. In that role, he helped promote players such as former Pro Bowl guard Adam Timmerman and current NFL kicker Adam Vinatieri to NFL scouts. UMC Women's Basketball schedule
The University of Minnesota, Crookston Women’s Basketball team returns to Lysaker Gymnasium this weekend when they host Northern State and Mary in NSIC action. Due to last weekend’s games getting moved back two days, this weekend’s games have been move to Saturday and Sunday and will start at 2 p.m. on each day.
MINNESOTA, CROOKSTON – (5-6, 2-5 NSIC) The Golden Eagle Women’s Basketball team went 1-1 on the weekend. After defeating Southwest Minnesota State 67-60, UMC fell to Minnesota State 69-67. Jamie Zelinsky (G, 5-11, Sr, Brooklyn Park, Minn.) led the Golden Eagles averaging 16.5 points/game. She grabbed 17 rebounds good for second on the team with an 8.5 rebounds/game average. Bri Zabel (F, 6-0, Sr, Northfield, Minn.) followed Zelinsky with a 14.5 points/game average and was second on the team with six assists.

For the two games, Collins averaged 12.5 points, 4.0 assists and 5.0 rebounds while shooting 58.8 per cent from the field and 50 per cent on treys… McKenzie Foster (F, 5-10, R-FR, Big Timber, MT) was nearly perfect from the field, making 10-of-12 shots and averaging 13.0 points while playing just 18 minutes a game. Foster made 3-of-4 shots and scored nine points with two steals off the bench at Winona State. She followed with a game-high 17 points at Upper Iowa, making 7-of-8 shots, including 2-of-3 behind the arc. The redshirt freshman also dished five assists.

Bison Look to Snap Three-Game Skid Against Oral Roberts, Centenary

Beaver Pride's third annual Hardwater Classic set for Jan. 15
As the January winds whisk in from the north and temperatures plunge below zero, Bemidji State University offers an opportunity for all of Northern Minnesota to embrace the outdoors. Beaver Pride, the scholarship fund-raising arm of BSU athletics, has set aside January 15 from 12-3 p.m. for its third annual Hardwater Classic.
In its third year, the Hardwater Classic is a catch-and-release ice fishing tournament held on Lake Bemidji in conjunction with Brrmidji Polar Daze events. All proceeds of the annual fund-raising event directly benefits the Bemidji State University athletic scholarship fund.
The 2011 event promises to be bigger and better than ever. In addition to a $1,000 cash prize for the largest fish pulled through the ice, prizes such as pop-up fish houses, Glide-Lite sleds and ice augers will be awarded for the first 50 fish caught. Any participant lucky enough to land a specially tagged fish will be awarded a 2010 Honda CRV courtesy of Honda of Bemidji. Moreover, anglers will also have the opportunity to purchase raffle tickets for a chance to win a 2010 Polaris Ranger 400 side-by-side ATM donated by Bemidji Sport Centre and Polaris. Participants that are able to land a fish the length of their ticket will be entered for a chance to win an Ice Castle green fish house from Corner Sports. In all, cash and prizes exceed $40,000.
Participants are encouraged to park in the Bangsburg parking lot, located on the BSU campus at the corner of 15th Street and Birchmont Drive NE, and will be transported to the pre-drilled holes at the tournament site by hay wagon. The only on-ice parking will be for handicapped vehicles and must be marked as such.
A pre-tournament rules meeting will take place at 11:15 a.m. at the tournament site the day of the event.

In its third year, the Hardwater Classic is a catch-and-release ice fishing tournament held on Lake Bemidji in conjunction with Brrmidji Polar Daze events. All proceeds of the annual fund-raising event directly benefits the Bemidji State University athletic scholarship fund.
The 2011 event promises to be bigger and better than ever. In addition to a $1,000 cash prize for the largest fish pulled through the ice, prizes such as pop-up fish houses, Glide-Lite sleds and ice augers will be awarded for the first 50 fish caught. Any participant lucky enough to land a specially tagged fish will be awarded a 2010 Honda CRV courtesy of Honda of Bemidji. Moreover, anglers will also have the opportunity to purchase raffle tickets for a chance to win a 2010 Polaris Ranger 400 side-by-side ATM donated by Bemidji Sport Centre and Polaris. Participants that are able to land a fish the length of their ticket will be entered for a chance to win an Ice Castle green fish house from Corner Sports. In all, cash and prizes exceed $40,000.
Participants are encouraged to park in the Bangsburg parking lot, located on the BSU campus at the corner of 15th Street and Birchmont Drive NE, and will be transported to the pre-drilled holes at the tournament site by hay wagon. The only on-ice parking will be for handicapped vehicles and must be marked as such.
A pre-tournament rules meeting will take place at 11:15 a.m. at the tournament site the day of the event.

Registration is $25 for the general public and $15 for Bemidji State University students with a valid ID.
All registration forms and payment received by Jan. 12 will be entered into a drawing for a GPS compliments of Gander Mountain.
MSU-M event changes
MSU-Moorhead Basketball coaches, Chad Walthall and Karla Nelson will host Wings with Walthall and Coffee with Karla the second week of January as Moxie Coffee will host Coach Nelson at 9:30 a.m. (Jan. 11) and Buffalo Wild Wings will host Coach Walthall at 7 p.m. on Jan. 12.
Wings with Walthall was originally scheduled for Jan. 5 and has been moved due to scheduling changes within the NSIC.

Josh Hager Hired as Defensive Coordinator with Golden Eagle Football
(Crookston, Minn.)- The University of Minnesota, Crookston football program announced today that Josh Hager has been hired as the new defensive coordinator with Golden Eagle Football. Hager was a linebackers coach and recruiting coordinator at Michigan Tech for the past four seasons.
“Josh is an excellent football coach with tremendous talent and work ethic. Josh’s background as a position coach and recruiting coordinator for Division II programs makes him the perfect fit for us,” says Head Coach Chuck Moller. “I have known Josh for his entire professional career and feel very comfortable that he will be asset to the development of this program.”
Before arriving at Michigan Tech, Hager spent a season as the wide receivers coach at NCAA Division I-AA Central Connecticut State, where he helped the Blue Devils to an 8-3 record. CCSU’s offense set seven school records and finished among the top 10 in the country in Division I-AA in scoring (33.0 points per game) and total offense (386.8 yards per game).
Prior to his stint at CCSU, Hager worked at the University of Mary in Bismarck, N.D., from 2003 to 2005. He coached the linebackers, defensive line and tight ends during his tenure.
Hager played quarterback at Dickinson State University for four years and began his coaching career there in 1996. He moved to Valley City State University to complete a bachelor’s degree in elementary education and physical education in 1999. Hager gained a master’s degree in secondary administration from the University of Mary in 2006.
