BURNSVILLE,
Minn. – University of Minnesota Crookston women’s basketball player Alison
Hughes (So., G, Janesville, Wis./Janesville Craig H.S.) was named Northern Sun
Intercollegiate Conference (NSIC) North Division Player of the Week after
scoring 22 points in a win over Bemidji State University last Thursday.
Hughes
is the first women’s basketball player for the Golden Eagles to earn the honor
during the 2016-17 season. She joins men’s basketball player Harrison Cleary as
Minnesota Crookston athletes to earn the recognition this season.
Hughes
had 22 points on 6-of-8 from the field against the Beavers. Her performance
helped lead the Golden Eagles to an 80-68 win over Bemidji State, their first
win of the 2016-17 campaign. Hughes was 3-of-4 from beyond the arc and a
perfect 7-of-7 from the charity stripe on the night. She added six rebounds and
three assists. Hughes is leading Minnesota Crookston with 16.9 points per game
this season.
She
joins Wayne State College’s Kacie O’Connor as NSIC Players of the Week as
selected Tues., Dec. 20. O’Connor earned NSIC South Division Player of the
Week.
The
Golden Eagles will return to action Fri., Dec. 30 at Winona State University at
6 p.m.
